Hello! It is great to know that there is a web site for parents with children sufffering with ADD or ADHD. I am a 33 year old mother of 3 children, two boys (one is 6 and my other son is 14 years old and one girl who is 13) and I attend college on a full-time basis. Both of my son's suffer from ADHD and it has been a long hard road for me with many struggles and obstacles to dealing with this disorder. I have learned over the years with lot's of research to deal with both of my sons. Each has a different way about them, with different symptoms of ADHD. I understand the disorder and have learned to deal with each of their situations differently over the years due to their age. The only problem I have is making my family and friends understand that the do suffer from ADHD and that it is just not the "boy syndrome" or a phase that they are going through. My oldest son of 14 years of age has been on medication since he was 7 years old and my 6 year old has been on medication since he was 4 years old. They are great kids! It is easy for me to deal with it because I have delt with the whole picture without hiding my head. I deal with a lot everyday. I use a lot of structure and repetition here at home and I keep in close contact with the school systems here where I live about their behavior and class work. There is a punch to this story...I re-married last year and my husband has 4 of his own biological children, all of which are around the same age group as mine. He wants to keep things even and deal with each of their situations the same as his children, but how can one do that when two of mine suffer from ADHD and none of his children suffer from the disorder? I can't get my husband to understand that there is a disorder with my two son's and that each has to be dealt with differently due to the circumstances. Is there an easier way to explain ADHD to him so that he doesn't think that I am being partial to my two son's? They both require so much of my attention. I try so hard to be equal with all 7 children, but I do tend to be a little more leinient with my boy's. Could someone shed some light on this situation for me and tell me how to get the other family members to understand exactly what ADHD is and the strategies that are required to go along with the disorder? Any information would br greatly appreciated.

My son is ADHD and in college now. Today he is going to his doctor to ask her to put him back on Concerta or Adderall for his morning classes only so he can concentrate mostly only his math class which he has already failed once (last semester). He also failed music theory, but did very well (A's and B's) in all his other courses.
He is not a morning person; so he tries to schedule his classes late in the morning. That seems to be working out well for him.
He is starting these meds rather late in the semester, but I don't think they took mid-terms yet; so maybe he'll be able to salvage his grade. He doesn't tell me much; so I don't know what his averages are right now.
He enjoys his piano performance class, but the pressure is getting to be too much for him. They want him to practice 3 hours a day, and he just feels that he can't. So he might drop that class which will drop him down to part-time. Whatever he can handle!
Please pray for him.

I'm wondering what I should do about teenagers that have ADD and ADHD and are addicted to this computer game called World of Warcraft. It keeps them busy but ... it is hard to get them to think about anything else.

I am looking for any suggestions =

My son who is 9 1/2 yrs old who was diagnosis with ADHD in first grade and is currently on Concert 36 mg, constantly wrecks things and breaks things. I've had to replace my shower curtain 2x in the last 6 months because he has bitten it and now he just tore the upholstery on a chair. He has dug his name into wood furniture, peeled paint and wallpaper, broken almost every toy we've given him. How can I teach him not to do this? He receives consequences when he does do this (after we spend about 1 hour getting him to tell us the truth) but they don't seem to stop him the next time. I am sure this is related to his impulsevity but I am losing valuable items in the process. Any tips would be appreciated.
