When my neice first started on the omegas, she had trouble swallowing the big capsules, so I was piercing them with a needle and squeezing into a cup of apple sauce. She never complained about the taste. Now she takes pride in being able to swallow the pills, but 2 years ago, we had trouble getting her to swallow and advil, so I was looking for everything chewable. Couldn't find the fish oil chewable in the right ratio, so the applesauce worked for us.

mommy2david, If I were you, I would try to find some omegas he can take. Personally I believe that any omegas are better than none, even if they don't have the ideal recommended ratio. Of course I'm not a medical expert though, just my personal opinion. Have you tried the Mor EPA minis? I don't personally have any experience with these, but lots here recommend them for kids who have trouble swallowing the larger capsules. When my kids were much, much younger, we used Coromega for a while. It comes in little foil packets containing about a spoonful of this pudding-like substance that tastes like orange creamsicle. My son liked and ate it even though he is extremely picky. Best of luck! I know there is so much information to sort through and it can be hard to find what works for your child.

I tried PS for a while. It worked good in the beginning, but later the effect weakened. I also tried EPA fish oil for a while.
Now I have switched to krill oil. It's different from normal fish oil and also works different. I find krill oil to be much better then fish oil.
I now take 10 capsules of krill oil a day and it's working against ADD symptoms (concentration problems; diffculty reading and listening to conversations). I have to take alot of capsules but it's working.
You should only use krill oil from reputable sources that is clean from contaminations such as mercury (which can be harmful on the long term).
Krill oil contains DHA (and EPA) that is attached to phospholipids such as phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine that makes it work different.

My 7 year old daughter takes the MorEPA minis. She takes two everyday.
They are gel caps about the size of a tylenol oblong capsule. The gel caps
are really easy to swallow and they are pretty thin. She can't swallow
tablets or fatter gel caps, but these are no problem.

I am new and trying to figure this thread out - it is a long track of info. We had tried fish oil a couple of years ago and didn't see any difference. However, I don't know if I had the ratios right at all.
What do folks feel the fish oil actually impact? What are folks using magnesium and what is the phospotdyl serine? Are they the same thing or different. I am sorry to be so elementary, but every time I think I get it, I get crossed up again.
My daughter is reacting so horribly to the meds that I have to figure out another solution. I truly appreciate your patience.
My daughter is 8 years old and approximately 60 pounds.

From the studies I've read on fish oil, they used about a 7:1 ratio of Epa
to dha, although one I read used a 2:1 ratio. An acceptable amount of
Epa may be about 500mg. They studies also gave the fish oil for 3
months before reavulating. Fish oil only works for about 30% of the kids
in the studies, but it is good for you so I feel why not give it a try. One
study gave a huge dose (10g) but at this point I am not comfortable
giving this much to my child. Ps is something different. I think it helps
things pass though cell membranes, so it may allow "good stuff" to enter
cell membranes in the brain more easily.
As for Magnesium, I've read many studies showing kids with adhd are low
in it. It also seems safe and if you take too much you just get the runs.
There were a few meds/conditions where one should not take Magnesium
but I can't remember what because they did not apply to us.
My daughter (65 lbs) takes about 200 mg Magnesium. ONe source is a
powder
called Natural Calm that you add to a bit of hot water til it fizzes. Then
you can add juice to it. My daughter got sick of drinking this, so I give
Attentive Child, which is a chewable wafer that taste like a sweet tart
candy. Attentive Child has other things in it besides Magnesium,
but I can't find a small capusle like pill of magnesium with the correct
dosage and my daughter will not take tablets. I also add a very small
amount (18mg) of liquid b6 to her morning juice. B6 helps with
Magnesium absorption
I started fish oil first and after a couple months noticed less over
reactions to kids who were unkind (as all kids are sometimes) and less
anxiety, as well as feeling better about herself. Also much less sensitivity
to clothes, which was also a huge problem.
Was hoping adding Magnesium/b6 would improve her focus and make
math/reading easier for her but so far it has not. It has only been 2
months so I'm giving it more time.

I now use a high dosage of krill oil together with phosphatidyl serine and it really works!
This is my dosing shedule:
08:00 6 softgels krill oil. 09:00 1 softgel phosphatidyl serine. 12:00 1 softgel phosphatidyl serine. 14:00 4 softgels krill oil 15:00 1 softgel phosphatidyl serine. 18:00 1 softgel phosphatidyl serine. 20:00 4 softgels krill oil 21:00 1 softgel phosphatidyl serine.
