I know it's very confusing reading through some of these long threads. This thread is supposed to be about PS (phosphadidyl serine), but somehow got sidetracked into being about omega 3 fatty acids in the last page or two. If you go back to the first page of this thread, the very first post offers a pretty good explanation of PS, which is an amino acid that many here have found helpful for ADHD symptoms.
There is another long thread here all about omega 3s, and I think Mamamia provided good information in the post above too. I think people find omegas helpful for ADHD symptoms in general, but they do not work instantly and must be used over a long period of time in order to have an effect. (Also, people with blood disorders or those on blood thinners should not take them.)
I give my daughter 2  Omega-3 Mood Formula capsules per day which equals 1000 mg EPA and 200 mg DHA, along with a multivitamin/mineral, and one L-carnosine capsule (500 mg) in the morning with a PS capsule (500mg PS complex) at lunchtime.
If I were you, I would just try to take a few days to read a little at a time and sort through the info in your head. Of course we're just regular people here, not medical experts, so use your judgement and consult an expert if needed. Let us know how things go for you and your daughter and best of luck!

Thanks.  We have been meds free for 2 weeks and at this point, if I can control the impact on school, we aren't going back.  Still a little hyper, but more worried about the impact on school work.  She is so much nicer and happier - I can't imagine going back.

I will be touching base with the pediatrician in a few weeks.  Also, been going to the chiropracter, which is relaxing her if nothing else, at this point.

My son has been med free since school started.  His grades are not as good as last year but he is holding his own and is happier. 
He takes 3 PS in the am with zinc and fish oil, and mag in the evening with an l-carnatine. 
He is still pretty disorganized and I have to help with that.  He is in 6th grade and they have 8 classes. 4 one day and the other 4 the next so he has a different backpack for each day.  Everything in one is red and the other is black.  Book covers, notebooks, spirals etc etc.  He has a blue homework folder and agenda that goes between the backpacks each day. 
It seems to work well for him with some help from me.

I have not but I do think that you can get the benefits of epa from krill as well as fish oil. I know krill oil does not carry the risk of Mercury that fish oil does.

I think the point is that fish oil, or krill helps you to have a healthy pliable brain and tne when you add PS, if you need it, you get  a lessening of symptons.

My son is now off of stim meds as I posted before and although he is still more hyper and disorganized than most kids, some how with the PS, it is OK.  The change is subtle, not like with the meds where it is like a light turning on.

The other thing I have changed is my style of parenting.  I have worked really hard to live in the present and put aside my fears of the future. The things that used to push me over the edge are really not such an issue as I believed.  I know my son could get A's and B's if he was on his meds. But... it is 6th grade and he is so proud of himself that he is doing it med free.  I think that is worth more!

He has a really hard time sitting at the dinner table for any length of time. I used to get mad and make him sit with us longer.  It did not make him enjoy the family time any more so I decided to make it more about love and acceptance.  Now when he gets antzy I say I see this is getting hard for you , I love that you gave us this time, thank you you are excused.  The world did not come to and end because he did not sit over dinner. So I guess I have take away a lot of the stress of ADHD in my parenting style and that has helped a lot.

The krill oil makes the PS work much stronger. This is why I use krill oil together with PS. The PS should be used approximately 0.5 - 1 hour after taking krill oil.

Please try it it could make a big difference.

One more note: when buying krill oil you should be careful when buying neptune krill oil because they sometimes may have problems at the moment. Please check the product ingredients to see if it is neptune krill oil. A good alternative krill oil producer is: Azantis (enzymotec).

If buying neptune krill oil, you should check if their krill oil is dark red or brownish orange outside of the bottle. If it's dark red it's okey!

I just tried Source Naturals arcticpure krill oil. It's about the only brand that isn't sold out. It isn't nearly as potent as the neptune krill oil I tried before they had manufacturing problems. I then found out the product is actually a mix between fish oil, lemon oil and krill oil.

I have used krill oil and it worked really well. But for me just PS with some fish oil works great. Krill oil is quite a bit more expensive, and since I could do OK just with PS and fish oil, I don't regularly use it.

By the way, for me, L-Carnosine provides the same results as PS, but is stronger and costs less. So that is what I am using now. I just got the cheapest L-Carnosine that I could find and it works great.

(With PS, I found brand to be significant, Natures Way PS complex worked best for me and that stuff is not inexpensive.)

Ok - not sure if I am delusional, but I think it is working!  We have been med free since the first week of October.  I got my nice child back, but her attention at school and grades fell.  About 2 weeks ago, she got a note from school indicating that the teacher was really frustrated about her behavior, focus and listening and running her mouth like crazy.  I started the fish oi and the PS  - two weeks later the teacher is sayiing that her behavior is back in line, her grades are back in line and I still have a nice kid.  I think that this is amazing as, we started the fish oil and ps at the same time. 

Not sure if we are honey mooning, but for now -we are going full steam ahead.  I have a teacher's conference on December 7, so I will have another check point in a couple of weeks.

Great news! Hope this continues for your daughter! Let us know.

Update on my daughter:  We switched back to using just the PS (and omega 3s of course) rather than using L-carnosine and PS. It was just my gut feeling that she did better with two PS capsules per day rather than one L-carnosine and one PS.
She's had a rough semester due to numerous illnesses and absences (flu+), but she is hanging in there!
