Hi,
My 3 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD "with an extra dose of H"
he was perscribed Tenex to regulate the hyperactivity and impulsivity.
My nine year old son has ADHD and is on Strattera which is working great! I just feel so bad that I have to put another one of my kids on meds, but there is nothing else I can do anymore. When I braught him to the psychiatrist for an evaluation I didnt even have to say anything. He saw his behavior and how he could not sit still for even one minute. I have never heard of Tenex before. If anyone has any experience with this med on such a young chilld please write back.
Thanks

My son has been taking it along with his concerta since he was turning 7. We began meds and added it from the start. It works great. it smooths things over for him, like the frosting on a cake!
My son was older than your son when he started meds, but believe me, we should have had him evaluated and on meds as well younger than we did.
I am proud of you. It helps having the experience with your first child!!

Hi,
My DS, age 6, just started Guanfacine (generic Tenex) a week ago. For the first week, it was amazing! Calm, cool.. 80% of his aggressive, hyper behavior disappeared overnight. Dr. says it takes 3-5 weeks to reach full strength in their system, so it is not a quick fix. DS was looking and acting tired the first 3 days, but that has really gone away. No side effects noted.
My DS is part of the 20% that cannot tolerate stimulants. At this point, early on in the process, we are cautiously optomistic. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes. There doesn't seem to be many kids on just Tenex.. my DS is the only one his Primary Care Physician has that is on this drug by itself.

My son is 4 and is on Ritalin and Tenex. My doc said that they try to keep the really young kids off of stimulants if they can so sometimes they try Tenex by itself first. My son had started with stimulants (with a different doc) so he has never been on Tenex by itself. It works very well for him to counteract the side effects of the Ritalin and it has an over all calming effect on him.
Good luck with it and I hope it works well for you!

Thanks everyone for the input I really appreciate it.
So I gave him the first dose this evening (.5 mg). And within an hour
he was much calmer. My husband and I could not believe our eyes. He
sat quietly at the table and ate, then played , then he actually said
that he wants to sleep. Bed time has always been difficult. He went
to bed and fell asleep. I hope this effect stays the same so that we
dont have to up the dose like the doc said.
I will keep updating on him.
Thanks again

Great to hear you're having good results already! He may not be as sleepy after his body gets used to the medication but he should be at least calmer!

My son is on then per doctors orders. I don't see any difference. Maybe there is and I just don't notice because it's so subtle. But I figure they're good for the body so why not. Can't hurt!

Hi Naoslaben, im sorry to be nosy but im doing a dissertation on children with ADHD and how it affects home life, you mentioned on your post:
'So I gave him the first dose this evening (.5 mg). And within an hour he was much calmer. My husband and I could not believe our eyes. He sat quietly at the table and ate, then played , then he actually said that he wants to sleep. Bed time has always been difficult. He went to bed and fell asleep. '
I am very interested to know how he used to behave with out the meds, in regards to sitting at the dinner table. how was bedtime hard?
Any info would be so helpful! thanks!
