A 504 is to help children who do not qualify for the IEP but still need assistance. my son has special accommodations with seat assignements, always up front, he gets speech therapy, and teachers are to assist him in other areas, but they really haven't pertained yet, if ever. It is just in place as a safety net. We have our TEAM and we meet and discuss his weaknesses and strengths, and of course removing him from the 504 plan. because he is doing well. i always wonder why once the child is successful they want to pull the rug out from under them? The reason they are successful is because what is in place is working!!!

Your so right,i have had my experiences in that area with my CP child, soon as he started to walk and talk at the age6,they decided he didnt need any OT,ST,orPT..im like hold on..he needs this..Its really so difficult.I hope to get all of my Adhd sons therapies started ASAP,he should get them free,i asked about a tutor and his teacher said feel free to get oneif you want to,im like well doesnt the school system provide this for free, and she was suppose to get me the paperwork,i promise you have to stay right on them b4 they get it done.Im calling first thing in the morning and getting all this handled,he needs to start now,i dont wont them to think they are gonna wait til next year,i will not allow that to happen. The sooner the better.I do know their just has to be something they can do for his sensitive ears.MOst of the time you have to tell them that you know they provide these services because they are not just going to offer up information, its like i cant get any help thru the school. Its been hard tryign to figure out where to begin and what i need to request for him to have immediately..now that i have talked to you,i know i need to get him the occupational therapy and a one on one teacher for his learning.and also let them know its been since august and teh school system still hasnt started his speech therapy,he was going to the hospital b4 he started school for therapy and they even sent his records to the school and they still havent set up an IEP..well i think im gonna call rigth now about the speech because it has been way too long for him not to recieve any services yet.i surely do thank you.

Yes they NEVER offer, you have to call them on the carpet for anything. they don't want to spend the $$
How is your child with CP? Is he on a IEP plan or receiving any services???
My son has a child in his grade with cp and everyone really likes him, they all say he is real popular!! I love hearing that stuff!! They are in 7th grade.

I caled them about my adhd son and im getting some results on the speech therapy,i just had to put my foot down.Yes my son with Cp has an IEP,and he gets special services,he only goes to school 3 days a week coz he has epilepsy and we been trying to get the right dosage of meds,he is currently on 5 meds and has seizures daily still going on for the last 2yrs,were trying a new med now and praying it works. He has CP,suffered a stroke, has epilepsy since 5 months old.he is a blessing he almost passed away twice already. He walks with braces, and still has a lot of stiffness and weakness in rigth side. The school he attends is awesome,he has a one on one teacher, and everything, except they tried to get rid of his therapies..Their is so much going on with him,one medicine he was on made him stop walking and talking,we jus completly weened him off that med,and now he is talking and walking again.so with him and my adhd son, their so much going on all the time, they are all at school today so i get a break. My Cp child only goes MOn,Tue&Thurs..Im 27 yrs old and i feel like im 40..My daughter picks on my adhd son. all the time, because she doesnt understand why he does some of the things he does,my oldest doesnt get along with him very much at all..so its chaotic.i have been sitting them down and tryin to explain why my adhd son(Kameron) acts this way.Hopefully they will get along better. My Cp son(dylan) gets along with him fine, but does have some jealousy issues at times.I try hard but lately i have been feeling run down..My son dylan(cp) takes 5 different meds twice a day.and then kameron(adhd) takes his one dose of Ritalin in the mornings.and my other 2 are pretty good they dont have any learning problems or disabilities.thanks for being here for me to vent a lil bit..its been rough,i tell ya.

You are a good mother, my heart goes out to you. If I had those children with all the same diagnosis, I would be just like you.
You are awesome!!

Thank u so much,it means so much to me. and you know every moment i take doing this or doing that for my babies,is all worth it..I may feel and look run down, but they always bring a smile to my face even when a day seems so busy and tiresome,im so thankful for them all.Kameron will be home soon the adhd medicine will have worn off and he will be bouncing all over the place, but that doesnt matter, because he is home, where he is not judged or ridiculed, and im so grateful to have them all.I hope you have a very blessed day.

My dd is 13. She has been making good grades since 4th grade so They have kicked her out of the 504. Like you say I really think it was because of the help she was getting that she made the good grades. They did say they would put her in again if I had any concerns with just a call from me.
So far this year it has worked out okay but she is not taking any AP classes which she really should be in. I don't know if it is because she is not challenged so is able to get the school work done in class. Oh well it is her last year in middle school maybe a little coasting is okay. Maybe not.
She is doing very well this year so far on a lower dose of Adderall than she has ever been on in a school year. Its her summer dose and she is holding her own. I hope it continues since she will get to go to Japan at the end of the school year if she can keep her A/B grades and pass TAKS. She is so excited.
Our kids can do it and they prove themselves every day. I just want to keep her up and positive.

Hopefull_mother, your daughter sounds strong, like her mom!
Keep doing what you are doing, keep your eyes on her and her grades, friends, social, etc and she will be just fine.
