concertaYep, I can relate. My son was switched a while back to Strattera too. It didn't do him any good. He's 8 and on 36 mg. We've just recently had two suspensions that are causing grief w/ the family and I'm now considering having his Dr. up his dose to 54 mg. How much does your child weigh? our son started out on ritalin he was up for 24 hours so the dr said that one wasnt going to work , so he put him on strattera he was on it for a little over 2 weeks, lost about 12 pounds went into a deep depresion and he was only on25 mgs.he didnt want to smile or laugh he would just go to his room and shut the door and sit there,so back to the dr. the dr was very confussed by bradleys behavior strattera dosent effect people this way but here it was, so he took him off of all meds and said that his body needed arest. now he is failing in school he is a very good student he dosent fight or clown around and he dosent disrupt the class he just cant sit still and hes easily distracted sohis concentration is not at its best. but now his dad and i are not sure about more medication bradley has not had much luck and were scared now.we have changed his diet, his study habit, sleeping, chores, you name it we have studied almost every book the library has and just became more confussed on what to do.can some one tell us what is concerta, or adderall i heard about these on the message board. please help. is this medication available in the uk my son was just given equasym with no options to anything else the only problem with it is he does not go to sleep we have tried a sleeping liquid off our phso but dont like giving him 2 much medication we love him to bits but need help and advice thanksYes it is available in UK. In my son 12, it lasts 11-12 hours but he does have difficulty getting to sleep. However he always had difficulty going to sleep anyhow because his mind was racing. I am told that Melatonin, a naturally occurring substance in the brain that normally is associated with the onset of sleep, some times helps but have no experience of it. At present we are managing by givng the full dose (Concerta 36mg) first thing in the morning and a small top up dose of Equasym (2.5 or 5mg) about 4 hours before bedtime. Nothing is perfect but he is so helped by the Concerta (same drug as Equasym but just in a long acting form), that he is overall much happier. Good luck. My daughter is 10 and she wieghs about 65 pounds. She is taking 15mg of Adderall. She shows improvement but I still have some problems with her not doing her work in class. She is getting good grades. Alot of people that I have talked to who's children are on some form of medication say that their child has done a complete turn around but my daughter, although she is doing better, is still having problems. Do you think she needs a higher dose? reading some of your mesgs it seems like the dose of some of your children are much higher than what she is taking? maybe that's our problem. Has anyone experinced what I am?spyro: Congratulations for finding a solution that works for your son! I did a lot of the same things you did before I started my son on Adderall (joining CHADD, lots of seminars at the hospital and lots of research). I could bet that you've stayed up late researching until you fell asleep or because your eyes were too red and puffy from cying from the stories of other ADHD moms. Continued success for you and your family....but most of all, to your son....his success is due in part to his number one ally...YOU! God Bless. What side effects did your son have with the medication? What steps if any did you do with contacting his school with a 504 plan or IEP. Thanks for responding to my message.
I really need some help with my 12 year old daughter. She has been on meds since she was 5. She is ADHD without a doubt. She did best when on Concertta long acting but had stomach and headaches. She was on a high dose of 54mg. She is now on 40mg of strattera and 18mg of Concertta. She told me today she has very little control and is extremely loud. I feel the Strattera has not done much good for her. Could anyone relate to this. Please let me know. Thanks Anita Why do docs prescribe completely the wrong drugs??? ADD ppl don't need AD's I strongly believe that
What milligram concerta is your brother taking? My son is 9 yrs, weighs 80pds and takes 54mg. I don't recall him having pounding in his head. He does suffer from headaches now and then. You may ask with his doctor to see of that is normal. Good luck. He is taking 36mg |
