Wellbutrin | ADHD Information

Hey everyone!  Back from my pshchiatric consult.  Good Lord I was there for 3 1/2 hours!!!  Dr. said I am Bipolar and ADHD, didn't expect that one!  He said that the Bipolar was more serious than the ADHD and that finding the right meds is sometimes difficult.  He prescribed me Wellbutrin SR for the BiPolar and said that if the depressive state seems to subside a bit and side effects are minimal by next appointment we will address the ADHD.  I have heard that Wellbutrin is also prescribed for ADHD.  Does anyone have input on its effects for ADHD?  I am hoping to possibly correct two problems with one drug!  Wouldn't that be awsome!!It would be great if Wellbutrin helped both, but I tried Wellbutrin before stimulants and it did diddly squat for me. Others have had success with it though, so there's hope. Just know that no drug "corrects" ADD, the meds are meant simply to make the symptoms more manageable - they won't go away.

I didn't know Wellbutrin could be prescibed for bipolar. It is an antidepressant, not a mood stabilizer. There's a difference.
I know he also prescribed lithium but I guess the wellbutrin in for the depression I'm in right now.  He said it helps the depressive apponents without envoking manic episodes.Ah. Okay. You learn something new everyday.

I hope the Wellbutrin can help the ADD. Apparently there is a possibility that ADD stimulants can make those with bipolar more irritable and more prone to anger outbursts. I don't think anyone has proven this though.

Through a discussion on another board, I have come to feel that I may very well have something called cyclothymic disorder, which is a less extreme case of bipolar, that doesn't quite fit into the bipolar diagnostic criteria. Oddly enough, I felt noticeably more irritable for my first week or so on Concerta. Hmm.
Very interesting, I would definately check it out and keep me posted!Did you say you were also on Lithidium?

How's that treating you?
