has any kids had their meds reduced?
I think it is possible that dosages are raised possibly for the wrong reasons, and then the children take higher and higher doses. What are the symptoms that she things it is too high? I know when my son took concerta it did stop working after and while and he did need higher doses to keep it effective. A few days off the concerta usually did the trick to make it work again.my son saw a new psych. last week and she wanted to try to change his meds from concerta 54 to 2 18 tabs(36). i'm not sure what to think about a lower dose. he never did super on the 54,but this dr thinks it is too strong for him. so has anyother child had a lower dose and did ok with it?Hi Joshsmom, Yes, my son's Neurologist took him down over the summer.
He called it "baseline" treatment to train the brain to compensate with
coping skills on the lower dosage. My son is 12 and was up to the
highest dosage allowed for his age/weight (adderal) . The summer went
OK but we've already had to add a morning "booster" of 5mil adderal to
simply allow him to FUNCTION in the mornings and get ready for school.
So far, so good at school, but it is early. I guess I understand the
thinking behind it, although my son is very severe ADHD. He's been on
meds since age 5 and eventually the hope is to replace some of the
effects from meds to actual coping skills. ( We are seeing a Counselor
to help with these). Good luck and keep me posted!
he did good on 2 18 mgs of concerta, but the day the dr saw him he was tired and figety so she upped him to 54,but he has had some problems with being emotional and still not being good in school,so i guess this new dr hinks 54 is too strong for him,she wants to try the 2 18's again, but since he's been on 54 since june i worry that his body needs the stronger dose now.the new dr also wants him to do ritalin 10 on weekends so that he can eat better.i think she likes adderall that was the one she talked about so maybe if the 2 18's don't do it she could try adderall.
