Accidents and ADD/HD | ADHD Information
I haven't had any real accidents besides scraping my parents car on a cement poll the first day I got my permit, and I don't think that really counts.
Cars around me get into accidents, but so far I haven't had or caused any. Last week some people behind me got into an accident trying to get out of the way for an ambulance coming through rush-hour traffic. All I could think was "Yay! that's not me in that accident!" - horrible, I know.
My only real problem with driving is that I like to drive fast. It's not entirely my fault, though - the speedometer on the car goes up to 140! It's just asking me to speed. I try not to go over 80 because driving 107 mph in a 60 mph zone is dangerous (I wasn't even pushing the gas pedal down all the way . . .)
My goodness, David! I have had a few tickets along the way. I am sorry to say that my son started out a much better driver than me! I am not willing to say if it's a female/male thing or an ADD/HD thing! He has been driving a year and a half and has only had one ticket. He paused and rolled through an intersection. Those are legal here. We call
those California stops. Not really legal, but you don't get busted if
you're not caught. Hey, they let you drive 80 mph here on the freeway.
I was doing 80 in the fastline at night and a car in the middle lane
passed me going faster, and it was a CHP.

I drive like a maniac..... fast fast fast. 3 accidents in 20 yrs of driving.. dunno if that is excessive?
In my ADD/HD research, I have learned that is very common for people who have ADD/HD to experience difficulty driving and have been in a few accidents. I will admit that I have been in at least seven. Sometimes it was the inclement Wisconsin winter that helped me in those accidents, one bad one, and a lot of fender benders! The worst one was when I totaled my brand new car six months after I had it! I am proud to say (knock on wood) that I have been accident free for 6 years!
Good topic, SuperT!
I average about 2 per year. I've totalled 2 vehicles in 35 years. I've
been in 2 bicycle accidents where I hit cars running a stop sighn, and
illegal left turn.
I drove a car off a cliff in the snow, but the snow bank kept the car
from the plunge. I've been rearended several times. I driven into cars
in the parking lot at least 5 times. Backing up. Blind spot in a Ford
F350 CrewCab 4x4 monster. RR.
A deer totalled my 2005 Ford Explorer. Run into walls. Into those
things that keep you from running into walls. I know the crunch of
folding metal well.
My insurance premium was once higher than my new driver teen son's.
No tickets, tho. I'm too ADHD for that. It's a game for me, and NO, I don't endanger civilians... I do this thing I call
Car Talk
where the car has a "body language" that other drivers instinctively
"read", and I've learned who how to let other's who don't speak the
language take the tickets...
David, the pause and roll my son made ending up costing him 8!No accidents in 3 1/2 years 'cause I decided to S
L O W down. My dw on the other hand {or is that
wheel} has had FOUR this year alone. Three were
in my car {not very serious} and the last one was in
her car {very serious $} but drivable.
I've noticed when I'm driving and having a serious
conversation I get into some close calls, like running
stop signs and red lights. Hey, I just remembered two more:
They occured within a 2 week period, when my dalk tried to switch me to
Effexor. Nothing serious, but left my truck looking ADHD.
Hen I'm driving having a serious or any conversation, for that matter,
I always turn right at the stop sigh sign, whether I wanted to or not.
Big problem for an ADHD in LA, where you can't just get back on the
freeway... or can't keep making right turns b/c of the freeway...
The worst city in the world for ADHD drivers is Guatemala City. They
have double oneway streets, and double double one ways, and canyons
separating the lost ones.
So, to make a left turn, you have to make several right turns, and hope you end up on the right side of the creek...
