Sorry, I searched posts and can't find it. Someone said they take a low dose of Dexedrine first thing in the morning to get them going til the adderall kicks in.
How much dexedrine do you take in the a.m? How long does it take to kick in? Do you take it at the same time as the adderall?
I'm asking b/c I take 20mgs of adderall as soon as I wake up (yes, I've also done the set the alarm an hour early thing) and I have a helluva time getting up STILL. Any info is appreciated, as I'm seeing my doc tomorrow and I want to ask him for a 'scrip, but I want to know what I'm talking about!
why are you setting the alarm an hour early??
so, does this mean no one is taking Adderall XR and dexedrine? Am I taking my life in my hands?
Hardly, they're more or less the same drug. It's a safe combo to take. I would ask, however, if you've given any thought to just going up on the Adderall. The way it's released, as you probably know, comes as two pulses, each with 50% of the dose. So it really shouldn't need to "kick in" like Concerta sometimes does. With each 20mg cap you're getting 10mg immediately and 10mg 4 hours later. If you added a 5mg dose of dex in the AM, it would roughly metabolize as 15mg immediately and 10 in the afternoon. Why not just go to Adderall XR 30mg and get 15mg twice a day? Fewer prescriptions to fill, less hassle...
And regarding the "setting the alarm an hour early" thing... I may be misunderstanding, but are you setting it early to get up and take your meds with the hope that an hour later it will have kicked in and be easier to get up? Gotta love Dr. Amen. I have tried that method and when I did I didn't find it much easier to get up, but I did notice that because I was more or less asleep when the drug kicked in, I felt (subjectively) like it never did kick in. I came to the conclussion that I need to "feel" it start working after I take it or I don't feel like it's doing anything. When I was laying back down afterwards I didn't give myself the opportunity to do that. So now I just force myself to get up, have my coffee, and sit on the couch for 20 minutes or so until the med takes effect. Sorry to be long winded, yet again! Just my two cents!!
I take adderall in the morning and then around the evening if i have to do any work, school wise, i will follow it up with a dose of dexedine of around 10mg and i find it works great. It doesn't have the will power to do things, like adderall does for me, but it gives me the ability to concentrate and focus like adderall does without the insomnia that usually ocompanys me with the third dose of adderall. I find no problem with combining the two, especially since they are roughly the same, and have no problem falling asleep which helps in the long run. But if it works for you who cares what other people think it is all about how you feel and how it improves your quality of life. Now since i said this don't compare the difference between using and abusing drugs of any nature, use as your doctor instructs but i would deffintley let him now if it helps.ah, okay guys thanks, I did
take 2.5 dexdrine yesterday at 5:00
and what a difference it made! I'm having an extended bout of pms (perpetually
misaligned Sabina) which is making it
hard for me to know exactly what's happening w/the Adderall but I do know I
tend to feel the down heavily, same on the Dex I was on in the summer. I don't
care if the down comes at 11:30
I'm going to be unconscious shortly anyway (on week nights) but at 5:000pm?
Saw
my doc today and duked it out a bit and he agreed I could do this for now but
we had mentioned upping the Adderall so maybe I'll try that too, when my
chemicals aren't so whacked out. I am under the gun at work and need to put in
lots of time right now, who wants to have half a day of life?
I actually set my clock ahead too (it's a game I play) but not for the meds. I've been taking
them later as I was trying to extend the afternoon..my doc also mentioned
Strattera for me. I suppoed it's tempting to try something else just to see

That's exactly how I felt - no different!
so, does this mean no one is taking Adderall XR and dexedrine? Am I taking my life in my hands?
