concerta withdrawl | ADHD Information

Hi,

I would like to stop my sons concerta as soon as school is out.  He has been on 18mg. for about 1 month ( decreased from 36mg. previously because of a tic that developed).  The doctor said to just stop it but I have read of some bad withdrawl reactions and was thinking of giving him some ritalin (5mg.) maybe for a few days.  Does anyone have experience with stopping concerta and any side effects?

Much thanks

Hi Happygirl

I didn't stop giving my son Tom concerta, I just forgot one day and boy, did I know about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The only side affect Tom had from not taking his meds was a day from hell for him and me.

He is on 54mg at the moment and I did wonder if it really was for him as he just reverted back to the way he was before he started meds.  It's been nearly 2 months with him on 54mg and I think he has gotten used to it.

I haven't seen any signs of tics but I have heard of them.  Tom's specialist just told me to stop him taking his meds if his headaches got worse as he had 2 in 1 week.

Sorry I couldn't help any more

This is what our doctor told me:Concerta has the same ingredients as ritilin, and once ritilin is out of your system, it's out. In other words, there's no buildup in the system that the body would feel withdrawl from. Hope this helps.

My son is on 36mg of Concerta and I take him off every weekend. I have never had a problem.

His dr said that after the drug where off it's gone.

Sorry that's all I know. Hope it helped
