TOLERANCE TO ADDERALL

I was just curious. Those of you taking Adderall, do you ever feel like the effectiveness of the drug doesn't last as long after long periods of time. Like, for instance, if I take 30 mg in the morning for 2-3 weeks... or whenever.. I start to notice that it's not as effective.. so if I add 5 mg (with doctors approval only), then it works again. They call this addiction (it's a type of addiction)... your body becomes tolerant of a certain level and it takes more and more of that drug for you to reach it's maximum effectiveness. I was curious if anyone else is going through this too.

There's a HUGE difference between abusing medications and becoming tolerate to them AND USING (TAKING for medicinal purposes) medications and becoming tolerate. There's an intent here that separates the two meanings. I just wanted to express that so that you didn't think that I was saying that adderall is addictive and those who take it are abusing it.

We're so used to hearing about drug dealers and abusers that when someone talks about tolerance and addiction, it carries a negative stigmatism. It's not negative, because it's something we need.. I need and it's legal... So back to the original question, does this happen to anyone else?

Funny you whould ask that....Today I am experincing something new....I take 20mg/day of Adderall XL and have been for about 6 weeks now.  Have experienced some side effects, but most are tollerated now.  I took my meds this moring, but feel unmotivated today for some reason.  I am very alert, but unmotivated.  Last week I was just the oppisite...wonder if the effectivness goes down the longer you take it?  Usually within 1 hour or so I am movin', but not today!

Before they found out I was ADD, they had me on Effexor for anixety and depression.  I noticed after taking that for a while the effectiveness wore off, so I am sure that can happen with Adderall.. So the answer to your question is YES I am experiencing the samething...what do we do about it?

I didn't vote because I don't take Adderall but I wanted to share that there have been many posts on the Parents of ADHD children message board related to this topic.  Of course because children are growing you have to factor that in.  Some doctors have the parents switch meds every month so this tolerance does not get built.  Adderall one month Concerta the next.  It seems to work for them without having to incease the dosage.
