Adderall, oily skin, hair loss? | ADHD Information

Please help.

I started taking Adderall mid-May of this year. I'm 31 years old and female. One thing I noticed right away is that it makes my skin oliy, my armpits sweaty and stinky, and my breath stinky. I'm sure it's the Adderall because when I don't take it for a few days I'm not all gross. Now about a month ago my hair started falling out. Badly. I lose probably 300 hairs a day. My hair volume is at least half of what it used to be (a month ago!). My scalp is becoming very visible. I don't know if this is due to the Adderall or not. I've done a lot of Google research and the only time I come up with a hair loss connection it is with drug abuse. I'm not abusing it. I take 40mg a day. Sometimes 60mg, sometimes 30mg, and sometimes I skip a day or two.

Does anyone else have the oily skin (face mostly), sweaty, stinky pits? Anyone losing hair? Please help. I'm freaking out. Adderall has helped my life out a lot, but I don't know that I can live without my hair.

Thank you anyone for your help.

I had the same experience with hair loss on 20mg of Adderall XR. It stopped after a while but then after about a year and half of taking 20 my doc moved me to 40 & hair loss starting up again. Not major but I can def. tell. I too had problems finding any info on Google & other search engines but I do know it can happen. Make sure you are eating enough proteins and fats & I am fairly certain it will slow.

Hope this helps!

hBone & olyMons:  All I eat is protein & fat--maybe that explains why I haven't really experienced the hair loss, because apparently I probably should have:  I do have an illicit drug abuse history (my unwitting self-medication w/vasoconstrictor inhalants) & although I had a friend who lost a lot of her hair from doing way too much coke, the only time I really experienced hair thinning was during & after my pregnancy with my twins.  Albeit, I had enough hair for three people to begin with, now I just have the normal amount--yet that's because it never really fell out, it just became incredibly fine, whereas it was quite thick & coarse previously.  I also have a very compulsive habit of raking my fingers through my hair as if my hand were a comb until not one more hair is released from my scalp.  I do this frequently & it is my most obvious compulsion--I can't stop I don't care who's looking, which is unheard of for me.  I also only wash my hair once a week because it takes forever to get it straightened--I do it myself, and it will look good for that long & I'm lucky enough to get away with it.  My skin is always "oily", but once again, I rarely wash it because that just makes my face over-produce the sebum/oil.  As with wearing contact lenses & make-up, I've discovered that the less I wash my face, take out my contact lenses or take off my make-up, the better result I get.  I'm 4O, a chronic tanning bed user (I'm very self-conscious of the varicose veins behind my knees) & even my husband says I still look under 3O (he's probably lying.)  I guess I have learned that the more I leave to natural hygiene (no effort on my part) the better things look/feel, etc.  I also wear a ton of deodorant--enough to where my husband complains about how much we go through because to feel anything under my arms would freak me right out!  PS--I'm currently on 15 mg. Adderall XR 1x a day.
