Anxiety and ADD | ADHD Information

Would talking to your doc about the potential side effects help? I know
that when one is the grip of an irrational fear, the reality may not matter
much. But stimulants, compared to many drugs, have a brief half life --
Ritalin's is especially brief; it clears your system within hours. What is the
worst that could happen? If you do get a side effect, don't take it again.

I also have the same problem.  I am (was) a "self-diagnosed" ADDer (finally got confirmation Monday from a ADD Clinic-Yahoo!). I took all of the internet tests I could find and brought those results to my doc. He looked at them and gave me Adderall right away, BUT he was not convinced that what I had was ADD or GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). Now that I know FOR SURE that I AM ADD, I hope they can focus on the anxiety. It has definately gotten worse since I started taking adderall (roughly 9 months). I recently tried Efexor, but stopped after 6 weeks. I felt like I did before adderall...couldn't get out of my own way and crying all of the time. That took a while to get out of my system... I just felt like the 2 meds were erasing each other. Adderall has DEFINATELY helped with the focus. I take 20mg every am. I am curious to see other replys to your question. I would like to have a good combo, myself. Still need help with memory, too!

       jeff,

I take Lexapro for anixiety and Ritalin for my
ADD{inattentive} and it works great for me. I've been
on both for about two years with no problems.

Talk to your Dr about the BuSpar and any side
effects that you might have. The Lexapro made me
sleepy, so I just took half and it worked out ok.

I have inattentive ADD. Stimulants help me focus but they get me anxious as well. It's really because I am too worried about the side effects which actually makes them "real" thanks to my irrational worries.

My mother takes Dexedrine and Lexapro and she claims it truly changed her life (and I agree) - she went from a depressed unemployed lady to a happy energetic lady with three different STEADY jobs for over a year! She still needs Dexedrine to help her be more active and mind you, she takes 5 mg daily and doesn't develop tolerance to it.

My mom thinks I am neurotic who have issues with potential side effects of medications and she's right. :(

Is there anyone who have trouble taking prescribed doses because they worry about the side effects of stimulants? Anyone who is anxious taking stimulants? How can they deal with being on stimulants and being anxious? Will BuSpar help?
