litany of medicationsHi Kid.....were you officially diagnosed with ADHD? If you were professionally assessed as having ADHD, perhaps there is more than ADHD going on or perhaps you were misdiagnosed. One can not built up a tolerance for stimulant drugs as they flush right out of the system once effectiveness has worn off and if your getting severe negatives reactions to them, I suggest you stop them and get another opinion. Im not well versed on straterra so I cant comment on that. However, if you havent gotten a formal diagnosis, please get one and if you have already, get a second opinion, Good luck thanks for your input! yes, i was professionally assessed & diagnosed. i was previously taking prozac for my "pms", but my pdoc put me on trileptal (an anti seizure med) as a "mood stabilizer". and i will have to say, my "mood" seems to have stabilized. i dont really feel as though i'm building a tolerance to the stimulants (although i think i did to strattera) as much as i feel they just arent effective for me, or maybe as effective as i think they should be...OMG maybe i just have unrealistic expectations!!!!!!! i think that is interesting that you recommend getting a second opinion, as i just made an appointment today with another doctor. i wish they could just take a blood test, tell me what's wrong & what to do to fix it. thanks! Hi there Kidmonky....Im delighted to hear that your going for another opinion as ADHD in adults is much harder to diagnose if in fact it is ADHD. Having bad pms is no picnic either. Thats another great gift we women have recieved throughout our lives lol Below I have provided a link that is very informative in terms of adult adhd. Please keep in touch and let us know how your doing

Just a thought - there are also antidepressants used for ADHD such as wellbutrin and imipriminr - the tricyclics. Ask your doc about them.
Good luck hey guys! thanks for the input! i started taking ritalin lr today andohmygosh i have never been so tired in my entire life! (well except for the first month i took concerta & the first trimester of my pregnancy) is it normal for ritalin to put you to sleep? i've never taken wellbutrin or imiprimnr...are they similar to lexapro, prozac or effexor? i've taken those three and they seem to have unfortunate (shhhhh... sexual) side effects. i think my husband took wellbutrin when he quit smoking about six months ago.hi! i'm a complete newbie here, but it seems like there is so much experience here, i thought i'd try this one out on you guys: i am an adult with add (discovered it while researching regarding my adhd kid). i initially tried strattera (40-60-100 mg) which worked GREAT for about two weeks, but seemed to stop working. switched to 20 mg adderall xr for about 1 month, didnt help, switched to concerta 54mg...which helped a little but wore off too early on the day. i have since tried dexedrine (too many pills per day & didnt work) adderall xr 40 mg per day...it doesnt help at all & makes me cry all the time. my pdoc is switching me back to something like ritilin LR ( i havent picked it up yet) but says there is really nothing else to try. if i wait about a month, i can usually go back to strattera & get great results, but only for about two weeks. the stimulants seem to help for a short period of time, or not at all. has anyone had any similar experiences? ideas? advice? |
