playing with body parts | ADHD Information
This isn't as XXX as the title would suggest.
I'm just curious if a certain self-soothing habit I have
is connected to A.D.D. or possibly the anxiety that
can go along with A.D.D.
For as long as I can remember, I've played with my
ears. I take my thumbnail and press the upper ridge
of my ear underneath it. I do this all day long,
especially when I'm reading or thinking.
I suppose it's like biting your nails, but a little more,
unique??
Does this sound familiar to you all or should I just
make an appt. with the nearest psychiatrist to
discover what other subset of the DSM Manual I
belong to. That it feels left out?
I fondle my fingers.
With my thumb.
I particularly like my nails.
On my left hand only.
When nervous, both hands.
Fondle each other.
Not one another.
So when you say "fondle your fingers" w/ your thumb,
do you push your thumb under the nails of your
fingers?
That's the sensation I seem to go for, that under the
nail pushing. I only play with my left ear as well.
Could it be the right brain trying to tell us something?
i can't keep my hands outta my hair... twirling it, braiding it, combing through it.
i also always have to have candy, gum, something in my mouth.
that's too weird....
i do that too. not the ear thing but the pushing under the nail thing. i
use my hair and kind of twist it under the nail - that is definitely the
sensation i am going for.
i don't do it all the time just sometimes... not every day by any means.
spooky.
i can't think now but i don't think it is limited to one side of my body or
one hand either.

OuCh! That hurt@*&%!
No, I like the slick slithery smooth slidy slippery sensations.
Now you got me doing both hands, while I type...
Now that I think about it, I like the feelings of my pads, too. So I
kind of slither around, sometimes on top of my nails, sometimes on my
fingertips, and sometimes on my fingerprints. And sometimes it's
Pointer on top of Thumber.
Hey, you know what Gunny said on TV? That flipping the bird came from a
threat in the middleages the French made to the English that they would
cut their middle finger off, b/c that finger was the aiming finger for
bowmen. So when the English encountered a Frenchman, they graphically
demonstrated that thier middle finger was still attached to their
bowhand. Let's go find some Frenchies.
My wife thinks it's a sighN of my brain damaged drug abuse from when I
was experimenting as a kid (but I didn't swallow, snort, or inhale: it
just looked like I did. Come to think of it, it felt like I did, too).
Not the middle finger thing, but the finger fondling thing.
Sometimes when I'm bored at night I like to take a part of my stomach and stretch it out.
What part? Ever tried stretching out your long intestine? I hear it can stretch out some 40 feet.
How do you put it back together when your done? Are you a jedi or something like that?
Sometimes when I'm bored at night I like to take a part of my stomach and stretch it out. There are times that I play with my fingers alot, mostly fidgeting with them. I also dig in my ear canal alot too. I also like to stretch my toes when I think about my socks at times. I see nothing wrong playing with your body, I think it's natural, plus it over comes boredom.
