Apparently it isn't so rare. My dalk knew a/b it and prescribed some Effexor remotely, as I'd run out on a trip. Within 24 hours I was having serious shivers, to the point I couldn't drive.

After 3 years on Effexor, Cymbalta came out, and it took me 3 months to wean off Effexor, b/c of the shivers. I still get them from time to time, like last night, even though I've been off Effexor for over a month. I was on a high dose, though, so that my have had something to do with it. 600 mg/night.

I liked the Effexor, b/c it took the edge off of life, and I quit yelling, raging, and fighting. Cymbalta is doing the same, w/o any of the other SERIOUS side effects of Effexor, such as hyperperfusion, hypertension, and hyperdehydration. Plus three auto accidents attributable to Effexor effects.

Watch yourselves, especially if you're older. Take your blood pressure weekly, and learn the signs of high bp. Good luck.

[QUOTE=seeker63]effexor sucks! after months of night sweats, poor sleep, ed, and finally a suicide attempt, i had to get off that s**t!

"brain shivers" is also known as "the electric brain thing","The Zaps", "Effexor shocks" or "brain spasms", is a notorious but rare withdrawal symptom of the antidepressant. I find it interesting. I get that occasionally for like two seconds. It's spooky. It's like I am going to have a seizure. No pain though.

My friend experienced that after stopping his antidepressant and he said he was having "brain seizures" like electric shocks going through his mind.

Does anyone experience brain shivers after stopping antidepressants? Stimulants?

Foggy I sure did after tapering off--very slowly--zoloft. It was HORRIBLE, and something I never care to repeat. I had been on one form of SSRI antidep or another for 3-4 years. It lasted several months, though the first few weeks were the worst (sick in bed). Benadryl helped a little. Many docs do not acknowledge this withdrawal, but if you do a web search, you'll find many, many testimonies about it. My hubby had it BAD going off Effexor too.

I don't know of it as "brain shivers", but the last time I came off citalopram 20 mg. (celexa), I did experience dizziness with skin crawls and tics for about three weeks(insurance ran out and I could only buy 1/2 of the RX.).
