This new forum | ADHD Information

Hi All......As a parent who has a child that was diagnosed with ADHD at age 7, he also developed an extreme amount of anxiety through the years which brought about many unnatural fears. It was recommended by my sons pychiatrist at the time to enroll my son in cognitive therapy. In conjunction with medication, I found cognative therapy to be extremely helpful for my son as it was just one more intervention that proved to improve the quality of life. My son is now 17 so I can relate to all the questions and concerns new parents have as Ive been there. Below I have provided a link for all to better understand what cognitive therapy is.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy Institute: What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy?

Woohoo! We did it! We now have a forum specifically formulated for posters to submit names/titles/authors of various books, magazines, articles, etc that have been helpful to them that they might wanna share with the rest of us! I know I, for one, was getting tired of having to write down all these books that people kept suggesting, so now we have our very own virtual "shopping list" if you will!

Thanks to LadyBentley for suggesting that I act on my idea and contact the system administrator to get this going, and thanks to Ernest, our super duper cool system admin guy for making this all happen so quickly! (I only just submitted my request today! Wow!)

Anyway, let's try to keep this forum free of too much "clutter" and concentrate on really having a positive place to post various references to help others. Books, authors, magazines, articles, heck, even names of websites (no offense, Ernest!), anything that we can share to help that next person!

Happy Posting! Woohoo!

A suggestion if I may... in an effort to keep the library neat, as it were, I would suggest that each new topic be labled with the name of a book or article, or website...

I will begin by starting topics with the books suggested here on the site.  This will allow for a conversation on each book to flow... if you have comments on a new book just start a new thread - dont bury the information in the middle of an existing one.

any other ideas or comments?  I am kinda psyched about this!  I love to read and am just at the beginning of this ADD journey and am looking forward to sharing and learning

OK then - we now have 10 books listed in this forum.  Surely someone has read some of them!  I am looking forward to reading what those people have to say - and perhaps buying a few of the books on their recommendation!Luv - thanks for posting the link!  I am going to make it into a thread of its own so that we can all read it and comment!

LadyBentley,

For anyone following the different diagnostic approachs, here's one that i have come across. Spect Scan Research report from UCLA, Testing of  123 Altropne on small group. This Study accredited to Carman Thomas and a Team.

Details are avilable at a site named "HealthyPlace". Sorry I do not have exact address. Well anyway this report highlights the effectiveness of Spect Scan as a tool for diagnosis.

My interest is that i am in a small support group and i monitor movements in research area as well as other jobs nobody else has time for, or other reasons best known to themselves.

Hi Ryan....since you mentioned spec scans. The article will explain to parents exactly what they are and how benificial or not they may be.

FEARLESS FOCUS

Luv - please start a topic for that article so people can find it OK?it is up to others with advice from their medical providers to decide the effectiveness or appropriateness of any method.

Abosultely Ryan..its  up to parents and their docors to decide what the best course of treatment is for their chidlren

Luv - please start a topic for that article so people can find it OK?

Oops........sorry Lady Bentley, I should have been more descriptive with regard to the link I posted. A poster mentioned Spec Scans which could hopefully be a medical test for the purpose of diagnosing ADHD.  The link I posted explains the pros and cons and whether such a test is worth the risk as there is still uncertainty as to whether the test could accurately identify whether a person has ADHD or not. For those who are interested in reading about Spec Scans , I have provided the link again.
