A couple of questions.... | ADHD Information

Share

First of all...I was wondering what everyones opinion was on what you think the best medicine out there is for concentration.  I am a college student and was diagnosed with ADD as a child, but my parents did not believe in medicating me.  I started taking Adderall XR last year, and I couldnt believe the difference in made in school.  My whole life I have never been able to sit down and study, and just concentrate in class.  When I take Adderall XR, I could study all day.  I stopped taking it this past summer because I felt like I didnt need it.  I felt like I was growing a tolerance to it, since my dose kept having to get increased.  When it wore off, I was dead tired and very very moody.  Now that school is back in I definitly need to get on something again, but I do not want it to be Adderall.  I go to the doctor tomorrow but I would like to get personal experiences from the medication instead of trying each one.  Any information would be helpful!

Also, I heard there are certain foods that affect Adderall?  Like the way it enters your system and some foods can take away from the effect it gives you.  I was wondering if anyone had any information on that.  Thanks so much!

Patients taking stimulant medications are advised not to drink acidic juices like grapefruit juice to take medication because the acid causes the medication to metabolzie too quickly and/or not absorb properly so therefore the benefits dont last as long or dont work properly.

i didn't know that!! thanks luvmykids!!

Welcome gymcoach........with stimulant medication, sometimes several medications have to be tried in order to find the right med and the target dose as everyone responds differently. Its all very individual. When the medication is effective, you should see maximum benefit meaning it should manage all the symptoms of ADHD, not just concentration. Communicate with your doctor and perhaps he will start you on a different ADHD medication and never, ever raise your dose without consulting with your doctor first.
