Am I nuts!!! | ADHD Information

Wow, I'd better give it a try!

The effects are still good and are not wearing off that I can tell!  Just thought I leave an update here.

Hey!  I found a research site that supports the theories in the book I keep talking about!!  Here is the site.

http://www.internationalsped.com/documents/(3)TaylorADHD.doc

It is a long report, but it does shed some interesting light on the symptoms of ADHD.

I'm just picturing myself doing those exercises and laughing my ass off. Glad it's helped you, though!

For anyone who has read my posts, you know I am obsessed with this book I read called Stopping ADHD.

I have been doing these exercises in this book for only about ten times and I have noticed a big difference.  Memory is better, organization is better - especially with time.  I can even type better!! Typing tests don't lie!

In the past on meds I could type 60 to 70 words per minute.

Off meds I could only type 40 to 50 words per minute (errors kill my score)

Since I have tried these exercises, I can type 60 wpm.  I am not on meds or anything because I have been testing these excersises.  I took that typing test probably ten times last night to make sure I was getting an accurate score (I guess I am still hyperfocusing on certain things!!! lol)

But these results are worth sharing!!!   I just want to post so that they might help someone else out there.

Just curious, what are some of the exercises?

The exercises are rocking and crawling exercises.  You have to have your hands flat in front of you, your feet need to be flat behind you in a crawling position.  Your head has to be up and you have to look straight ahead.  You rock back and forth, sitting on your feet and rocking up again.  You do that for 8 weeks I think.  Then you begin to crawl with someone providing resistence for you.  You crawl with your hands flat, head up, feet flat.  You also crawl backward after a number of weeks also.

The authors of this book (Stopping ADHD)claim that symptoms of ADD and ADHD are caused by an unmatured reflex that makes us uncomfortable.  The reflex is located in the upper back and neck.  The book states that we are used to the feeling of the reflex, but that is makes us uncomfortable.  This discomfort causes us to be distracted.  We do many things to deal with this discomfort.  We daydream, our minds race, we jump from one thing to another, we sqirm around, trying to get comfortable.  I think of it as a pain you get that doesn't go away,  you try anything to feel better, your mind does anything to cope.

Some of the signs that this reflex is not matured is that if you sit with both your arms and legs bent that your body wants to spring forward. I have watched the kids in my class (I'm a teacher) whose parents tell me have ADHD. They lay on their outstretched arms when writing, or listening. They lean back in their chairs to stretch their legs out.  They stand up.  It is uncomfortable to sit with their arms and legs bent at the same time.  This reflex is trying to get you to crawl.  Babies feel it to get our bodies to crawl and untimately walk.  If you walk early, or don't crawl enough then you don't mature this reflex and it controls you.

The exercises they have you do are rocking (like a baby does when he is getting ready to crawl) and crawling with resistance.

There is even a test that you can take to see if your reflex is mature.  You crawl backwards with resistance and try to spell a word.  If you have to slow down, or you are not keeping your head up or your arms and feet flat, or if you have to spell in cadence with the crawling, then you haven't matured the reflex yet.

The exercises are simple and easy. You just need a partner.  I've actually done them without a partner.  I've put on weights on my ankles to increase resistance as I have done them.

The book only costs .00.  I think it is even in some libraries.  It is well worth it in my opinion.

It is a totally different way to think about ADD and ADHD.  But I have seen results from it.  Everything in the book is sensible and it gives me hope for all the sufferers of ADD and ADHD out there.

(I think I shoud get a promotional fee from these authors for promoting their book!!!    But it really had worked for me and I think that anything that works should be shared.  )

If any of you try these exercises, I would like to know if they work for you.
