Wednesdays, 7pm EST

A couple of us here have decided to have a chat in the ADD room in the classic section of www.brainchat.org. Fridays at 5pm So many of us keep just missing each other in there that its getting to be a joke.

I have posted the same day and time in the children's section so if anyone would prefer a strictly adult chat, please post here a time and date when you would like to get together. Hopefully we can agree on something. I would love to have chats a few times a week. Barb

barb38159.5032060185 sorry barb, try not to take it personal. i am in no way implying that you are part of their deception and/or stupidity. unfortunately you have confused a terms of service webpage with an actual agreement that you must click on to join the chat. the real agreement comes after you choose which room you wish to join, you can completely bypass the terms of service webpage you are speaking of. anyway, i have no need to state my case any further than i already have. if i find something that i think takes advantage of people i will bring it to the attention of the people 500% of the time. i'm also not saying to not go to those chat rooms. all i'm doing is warning people about a potential problem, so they can make their own informed decisions - and i will never, ever stop doing that! anyway i am sorry you are bothered by all this, but that kindof makes sense because you are a good and sensitive person. however, they are probably not bothered by this at all. all in all, the chat thing is great idea. actually the biggest problem with it is being late to work the next day because of it! i appologize to anyone i have offended or upset because of my posts on this subject , but i assure you i was only looking out for the well being of others. sometimes when i smell a rat i get a little carried away, but that's only because i really hate rats. peace all.

nowhere in the agreement do they specifically mention which chats (i.e BrainChat) are logged and which chats aren't. the line in the agreement that I believe you are refering to is:

however, 2 lines before this one the say that chatrooms can be logged, kept forever, and distributed (i posted this line in an early message). they do not mention which chatrooms can be logged and which ones can't. you have to take into account both lines since they are both part of the LEGALLY BINDING agreement, therefore some chats may be logged and possibly sold/distributed and some may not.

btw, the only agreement that counts is the one you click on to enter. also if one line says something and another line contradicts the first line that DOES NOT mean they are nullified. they would probably lose if someone would sue them because of the poor wording, however, it will also probably cost around 25,000 - 50,000+ in attorney fees to do so. also, the site is hosted by Harvard, so they get free lawyers. I would be cautious there if you value your privacy. i guess i'm just overly cautious of medical personel, but considering all the forged and manipulated drug trials and such i feel it is well justified. not to say all medical professionals are crooked, but they do mostly choose that field to amass wealth. i think i will pass on the medical site chats. let them PAY someone for their research, i sure as heck pay them for their services. btw, i started looking into a dedicated chat server - i'm sure i can get 1 up but it may be a while with all i have to do. theres always msn though! cyas

p.s - i saw what you are talking about barb, it says that in the first agreement, then you LEAVE brainchat and ENTER harvard, then when you try to enter the chatroom you have to agree to the document I AM TALKING about. the one entering the chatroom is "THE AGREEMENT". tell your moderator friend that their legal dept needs to fix the ACTUAL chatroom agreement to reflect what is in the brainchat agreement! (that is if that's what they want - i believe this tactic is refered to in the con-man's world as the old "bait and switch". btw, i was able to get to the chatroom without even seeing the agreement you are refering to, however, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into the chatroom without ACCEPTING the 1 i am referring to.

The part that I posted is the very last thing you see before you actually enter the rooms. The last line of that is followed by the first room you can enter, which is followed by all the other rooms, one of which is ADD. That tells you specifically what you can expect from those rooms. I cut, copied and pasted the statement, so don't even hint that I created it or pulled it from another place.

If anyone does not want to chat in those rooms, they are free to not go into them! We are all adults and capable of making up our own minds . If you want to join us, you are free to join us. If you don't want to come there, then don't! Its that simple!

I have tried to address this tactfully and to show you that we (the others exposed to your tirade there and myself) do understand your concern about privacy. We have agreed that there is a need for a more private room. Can we please just let the matter drop now?

barb38162.6791087963ok, i downloaded a bunch of chat programs this weekend, unfortunately i also downloaded a worm. anyway the pc is all fixed (finally!). i have something i think will work out ok if anyone wants to try this wed. it is actually a "mud" which is a text only d+d game. you can say things and all the people in the room will see your words, or you can tell someone something, inwhich case the text will be private. if it works good we can even make our own custom rooms and items. it is located on my pc so no one (except other chatters) will be able to log it, and i will delete the logs periodically without reading what is in them. it should be able to be accessed from windows, unix, linux, mac, & even dos! anyway if anyone is interested in chatting wed night reply to this thread and i will put the server up. i will leave it running for a while tonight if anyone wants to check it out. to connect simply open a command prompt window (in windows its in the accessories folder). at the promt type - telnet 68.239.188.214 -when it asks your name, type "new", then make a username and password. once in the game try not to move around too much to get lost (if it is acceptable i will make a new map that won't be so easy to get lost) and type help for commands. ok, gotta eat, cyas :) Wile E38166.6056712963

Wile E , And whos to say you would be honest about not reading all the logs? Whos to say we could trust you? I think no matter where you chat, you just don't say anything that you would not want everyone to know. If it is THAT private, just don't say it. I've been to the brainchat room & I am perfectly happy with thier system. I aggree with Barb; if the people at Harvard learn something valuable from our posts, that will ultimately help my child, More power to them! I would trust a Harvard Dr. more than a coyote I never met before! No offense, you're probably a nice enough person, but I would be more uncomfortable with my private info going into someones personal PC than into Harvard .

We already have chats scheduled for 7pm EST on Wednesday nights in the brainchat chat room.

I would appreciate it if you didn't try to take over our already established chat session.

I'd like to think that it was an unintentional oversight on your part to try to schedule a chat which would compete (same day, same time) with one you aren't happy with.

I'm sure if you wanted to choose another day, there are people here who would be willing to chat with you where you would feel more secure. Why not ask if anyone would like to?

I would appreciate it though if you would post your own thread to do this so no one will be confused as to when or where these chats will take place.

Actually 9 in the evening EST would be good for me any evening. I usually go to bed around 10 or 10:30 during the week to get up for work, but hey, I could still hang around for an hour or so at least. And if the conversation really gets going or something, I guess it wouldn't hurt me to get less sleep for just one night a week.

Kimo, I chose that because everyone can use it. There is no software needed and even webtv can access it, so no one is left out. I had webtv until a month ago and was upgraded right out of some of the sites I loved, so its important to me that everyone be welcome where we chat. Its the reason I found this site though, so I am glad it happened. I love this place!

Okay, here goes. I always have Wednesdays off. I work Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon nights. I go to school Tues and Thurs nights. So I am always off in the AM and I am always up until at least 1 AM either studying, net-surfing or channel-surfing. I am in the EST so anyone who would agree to a Wednesday chat, anytime would be fine.

My best chat times are after midnight any day and any morning between 7 and 10. Hey! NO wonder I spend so much time by myself. During the times when I can socialize, everyone else is either at work or asleep.

Anyway, I'd love to meet some of you guys online. Anyone up for Wednesday chat?

Chief, I assure you that I am only organized when it is important to me. This is a good day for me so far, so its possible. By Wed I may be so out of it that I don't remember until too late, although I have this calendar in the computer which will e-mail me to remind me! It also keeps it posted in the side bar so I don't forget unless I forget to look over there (which I've been known to do)

Barb, my house looks like a junk shop every day with 3 kids; 1 ADHD age 9, 1 who's 4 going through late terrible 2's and 1 cheeky 18month old who's into everything at the moment.

Erm, I didn't realise this was for adults with ADHD. I thought it was for parents with ADHD kids.

I've read some of the adult messages and I can relate to some of the things they say. I thought I was a-typical Gemini - split. I can't seem to sit still or do one thing at a time.

I have what they call Itchy Foot syndrome. When I sit with my legs crossed my foot goes up and down all the time.

I do the same thing Adele! Maybe someone here can help us both! Since I've gained weight I find it more comfy to cross my feet at the ankles, and that makes it harder to jiggle a foot. I wouldn't advise getting fat for that though!

But I work every Friday night. In fact, the only time I would have to chat is in the AM. My boss is going to try to switch my sched to 3rd shift for the fall semester. I think that will work out great since all of my classes will be in the afternoon. Not to mention the pay increase.

Someone should set a time in the am for a chat then, Chief! Maybe you could start by telling us what days and times you would find most convenient. Once you set a time and day, those of us who could chat then could post also and we could try it! For people on the west coast Chief, 1am EST is 9 or 10 there. They may find it more convenient!

Would it be better for the evening chat to start at 9 or 10 EST? It could also be any day/days of the week. It would be better for me to do it later. With this beautiful weather here, we could enjoy the outdoors all day or after work and still make the chat.

There are some forums, including reedmartin which have their scheduled chats on Thurs and Fri evenings, so another evening may be better. Does anyone have a preference? We could even have different times for different days.

We will get this organized. Maybe a few of us could meet in the room to discuss the best times and dates. Does anyone want to try that? Just let me know. I am fairly flexible at the moment.

I am central standard time here, I always mix up other poeple's time zones, but I literally live on the computer and could be available any time in the evenings like I said after 5:30 time up to say 11pm at the latest.

Come to think of it, a lot of people are just clocking out at 5, Barb. Maybe Nightstar's right. I would even say later than 6 since you have allow for the commute, wash up and change of clothes, time w/SO etc. Not that I could participate either way and I certainly don't expect anyone who works 9 to 5 to sit up and chat with me at 1 AM. I'm just glad that I was able to meet you guys in this forum and the responses are, actually, pretty timely I must say. But still, I think it would be great if ADDers on this forum could spend time in a chat room.

actually after reading it i have determined that there are "some" chatrooms that are being logged and "others" that are not. it is a faulty worded document that will probably need litigation should they be challenged. they have a line later that reads:

they should have different agreements for logged and non-logged chatrooms to avoid confusion. so some of the chatrooms are logged others are not. which are which i'm not sure, but i will always err on the side of caution. actually the biggest problem is other chatters or admins (many chat progs allow admin passwords to make them invisible) recording what they overhear in their buffer. i didn't notice anything in the agreement about that. the one thing i known is i don't care for non-add'rs lurking while i chat. and wouldn't it be more comfortable without the hospital spies all over the place, if i wanted to talk to them i would make an appointment. i would prefer to chat with only my own kind, i've had enough of "them" :) perhaps msn or a private chat on a dedicated server would be better.

I chose that room because it is accessible to everyone, even those of us with webtv. Some browsers are tiny and can't access anything but the most basic sites. I don't want anyone to not be able to participate.

It would be good if you could locate a more private room for us to use when we want to discuss more sensitive or intimate issues. I agree that that is not the forum for that kind of chat.

I have no problems with interns or anyone else reading our posts. If what we talk about will help drs learn more about how our minds work and how ADD/ADHD affects every aspect of our lives, maybe it will help them to understand exactly what can be done in the least obtrusive way. If it will help them develop a way to explain and educate others so that we are valued as members of society, or to treat us without the side effects today's meds cause, yipee! If they can use the information to learn ways to teach our kids to function effectively and happily without meds, I would tell them every detail about my life, more than they ever wanted to know!

I had a great time once I got there. I hope we can make this a weekly event.

We should remember what WileE pointed out and save the more sensitive issues for a more secure room.

It was nice to have the chance to get to know each other better by being able to chat in real time (except for the stupid update thingy!). Is anyone up to making it a weekly event?

Heck yeah! I'd love it if you guys had a weekly "get together"! I have class every Wed night untill 10p through the last week in July. But I would love to pick up after that!!! I feel like I'm missing out! Can't wait till summer session is out!
