Clonidine & Methylphenidate Combination | ADHD Information

Share
Thank you thank you for posting this. My daughter has a tic
disorder and ADHD and the neurologist specifically said she
couldn't give my daughter a stimulant because of the tics. The
doctor put her on Tenex, which worked a bit for a month, but
then the tics returned, and my daughter couldn't stay awake in
class, and couldn't fall asleep at night.
I am going to take her to a different neurologist, and bring in
this article. Please post again after talking to your doctor.
Thank you so much.Thankd for the article, my md only uses the clonidine in combination with the stimulants if there is a sleep problem. I now have some info to take with me if we decide to add another med along with the concerta. She wanted to use tenex, but i think the clonidine is safer, I now have it in writing.
Thanks again

Interesting article.  See atttached link.  My son is scheduled to meet with Dr. Kurlan on August 25th.

Julie,  That is very interesting.  I wonder if this combination does about the same thing as the combination of Adderall XR and Strattera that my son takes.  The encouraging thing is that they are studying these drugs in combination and plan on doing more. -Gettingagrip-

My son 7 started 5 mg Adderal with no tics, When he was put on Adderal XR 10 mg he started with a vocal tic took him off it immediately and it took 7 days for the tic to go away. Saw a Neurologist who put him on Straterra, he developed a tic ( Straterra is not supposed to cause tics) Dr. said not tourettes.

He began Adderal 5mg. once again and because of his anger Psychiatrist added Clonidine 1/2 mg within 20 min. he started  to tic so bad (jaw) I thought he was going to choke. Called Dr immediately who told me to give him Benadryl to see if it was an allergic reaction, did not help. It had to wear off.

Psyc then put him on Risperdal which caused a tic. Wellbutrin caused a tic.

Finally, I went to another Neurologist and again questioned about Tourettes. She says NO, and does an EEG. SHe feels he is stressed out!!!  ADHD and impulsive and the tics will go away. Well I know they will go away without the meds. She wants to try Concerta 18 mg. starts ticing , I gave it a week and it only got worse.

This is only my experience, I thought I would share it.
