Just wanted to give you a heads-up about Concerta and Focalin. Concerta is the equivalent of 3 doses of Ritalin over 12 hours. Focalin is the equivalent of 2 doses of refined Ritalin over 8 hours, which means you can use about half the amount of regular Ritalin. If your son was on 27 mg Concerta, that is the equivalent of 9 mg regular Ritalin every 4 hours and about 5 mg of refined Ritalin every 4 hours. So your doc probably should have started your son on 10 mg Focalin XR to see how he did and then raised him to 15 mg if it wasn't enough. I personally think your doc is way overdoing it on the dosing. JMHO.

I called the Doctor's nurse and she sent a script out yesterday for 10 mgs and 5mgs, I will try the 10 mgs first and see how that goes and up to 15 mgs if needed.
I think the Doctor prescribed the 20 mgs of Focalin, Because my son had been on Adderall XR 25 mgs and did well in school, but fell apart at the end of day with the crashing effect. I was the one that put him on Concerta 27 mgs. My doctor did not think that was enough for him. Even though he had gained 14 lbs, joined a football team, joined a fishing club, signed up for hunter safety classes, and had a sleepover with some friends the first time in a year. My son was at the appointment and complained about being frustrated with homework. Will take your advice and try it out.

and you are right on the concerta and ritalin small mmom as that is exactly what my sons psych dr said when she switchd him from concerta to ritilan on friday.
I was told today that i have adhd, and severe anxiety depression (not the exact phrase but something with severe anx dep).
i dont think i am bipolar as i really dont have but a couple of symptoms of it, and they are really minor.
anyway, was wondering if anyone would have any med ideas for me on what worked for them:
what to use if infact i have all three?
and what to use if i only have adhd, and the anx depression.
i am curious to know what has worked the best so i can do research and let my doctor no what i want to try.

Calm down, I have been thru all this by mere accident. Its a long haul if you treat the conditions wrong. First of all you need to treat the depression and anxiety first:
Trileptal will cover both issues of Anxiety and Depression. It is a mood stabilizer and will not make things worse for you, they can actually dose a mood stabilizer in lower doses and use them as antidepressents. If you do have any type of Bi- polar in you it will not make it any worse or allow it to show its ugly face. The bonus is there is no weight gain or blood test on this medication and really has no side effects except sleepiness and you can take it before you go to bed. You have to be very careful with antidepressants if you have bi-polar, you can get some really weird side effects if it emerges. 30 days to stabilze that first....
Then on to some kind of stimulant, Focalin XR is suppose to have lower side effects, but can not tell you for sure. My son just started this and the dose they had him on was 20 mgs. Way to strong for him. Starting Monday with 15 mgs. We will see how it goes.
My son takes Trileptal at night before bed, to combat anxiety and depression. That was brought out with Adderall. We are trying to find a stimulant now, Focalin XR, we had used Concerta 27 mgs that worked well, but doc wants us to try the Focalin, because the come down is suppose to be a little sweater.
What ever you do don't take Adderall if you show any signs of depression or anxiety. You will turn into a living witch.

I myself have been diagnosed with a mood disorder, ADHD, and now social anxiety disorder. The trileptal was very tolerable for me, as a previous poster mentioned, there were some sleepy side effects, however they went away for me. The goal of the trileptal was to stablizie my moods and ADHD. However, it didn't take care of the ADHD so I was put on adderall XR which was quite a success. I just started paxil cr last week to combat my social anxiety problems and minor depression problems, no side effects so far, so we'll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks.
I'm currently on 1800MG Trileptal, 25MG Adderall XR, and 12.5MG Paxil CR (just a starting dose).
