advise on "Lazyness" | ADHD Information

Definitely the amphetamine treatments will give you excess energy - for a while.  Your body will become accustomed to the level though and you will either settle into normal or have to increase the dosage - which goes only so far safely.

I used to be told (and thought it was true) that I was "lazy".  It seemed I could not drag myself to do things that were important - especially if they were boring or tedious.

It turns out this is classic ADHD symptoms!  We give in to our base urges - to do the easiest thing and take the easiest or safest route no matter what.  It has a lot to do with this.

Once you get on a suitable med and begin the retraining of habits with good therapy (a must!) then you'll find things that seemed terribly hard to start up or complete become way way easier to do!

The therapy will retrain you on all the bad habits it's taken a lifetime to learn.  Don't expect it gone tomorrow but it will go away!  You must of course want to change but it seems you do.

Good luck to you my friend!

wocdam, i think that you will find many of us here that share the same problem..
what barb said is so correct - you need to stop looking at the big picture and carve it up into pieces that you can manage..
i also think that bad habits can be learnt, ie never using your brain to its fullest..  but bad habits can also be unlearned - you just need to get motivated.. find someone to be your coach.. for example, i have a friend who i ring and make sure she has completed her daily exercise routine.. find a friend who would be willing to 'push' you to use your brain more..

Have you tried going to the gym and working out? It is amazing not only what it does for the body... but also for the mind. I have always considered myself somewhat of a lazy person. But now I have the motivation to do pretty much anything! It only takes at least 15-20 minutes every other day to see a difference!

Only good things can come from giving this a try!!!

Hi,

Have a question but first i'll give you some background info so it might help you understand and maybe can offer better help. sorry if the text is to long

Since a young age i've always had problems concentrating, sitting still ect ect and all the rest of the ADHD symptons. so since a young age i couldn't concentrate meaning i couldn't study and such and got used to doing nothing my whole life.
The "Lazyness" became so bad that after i dropped out of school and started a company where i put all my savings into failed horrebly because i just couldn't get things done, couldn't concentrate and the the tought of doing big project just gave me a chilling feeling on my shoulders like something was preventing me to work. so as a result my company was bankrupt and all the money put into it to. so i searched to find out what could be causing this, and came across ADHD and could relay to almost all symptoms (got 53 3,4 answers on the AMEN test if anybody is familiar to that). so i went to see a psychiatrist and she diagnosed me with ADHD.
I've currently been on Concerta for a few weeks now, in the beginning 36MG partialy helped by putting my toughts at ease a little but that didn't last long for some reason but even then the "lazyness" was still there.

Alright, thx for reading so far :) now the question.

Can anybody advise me on what medication might help the "lazyness" get better and might actualy give me the mood to do something, even a little burst could be all i need to actualy get some work done.
Or is it as my psychiatrist says that i've grown so acustom of doing nothing since i started having ADHD at the age of 6 till now when i was diagnosed at the age of 21, that that feeling of beeing in the mood or getting started on something just isn't there and need to pull through and eventualy it will be there.
I've been reading about the difference between methylphenidate and amphetamine based medication, that the amphetamine based give you a little more energy.

I would also like to clarify that i'm not "Lazy" as in doing nothing,
i excerice and do other stuff, not really wanting to tough, but i can do it.
But when it comes to my work as a Website Developer, when i think about the depts of infrastructure from website i'm going to make, database and such i just freeze for some reason, i get that feeling what you get in your stumic when you are not at ease in my shoulders like something is pushing me down preventing me todo it. I've tried taskslists, planning but it just doest help for some reason and i'm also not lacking motivation since if i don't get it together soon, i won't have any money left to live.
A Job change is also not possible for me, since i sadly am not qualified todo anything else because i dropped out of school.

Any insight is greatly appriciated, Thanks a lot

Stop concentrating on the whole picture. Once you know what has to be done, break it down into manageable steps. Concentrate on just completing one step at a time. You don't have to do it all at once.
