Hates school already!!!

You need to take some action.  Go to the principal and be a squeaky wheel.  Ask him if he would allow a teacher to vocally berate a diabetic, or a kid with epilepsy.  Say it's the same thing -- a medical disorder.

We just pulled my 11 yr old out of football because the coaches were demoralizing the kids.  We had a game on Sunday (which we lost terribly) and my son played his heart out.  On one play he tried so very hard to catch the opponent's runner before he made the touch down but fell a bit short.  When my son got back to the sidelines, instead of the coach saying "good effort" "maybe next time". . . He said "you didn't even touch him, sit down".  Our offensive coordinator told my son (at the same game) that they needed to put him in on an offensive play because if he didn't they would have to forfeit the game.  To put that kind of pressure on an 11 yr  old is inexcusable.  No wonder so many kids drop out of sports by middle school

I don't understand why teachers get to teach if they are mean and ignorant...... bail him out otherwise his teacher will strip any remaining shreds of self esteem he has left..
if she is behaving like this, then she should be reprimanded.. she shouldn't be allowed to get away with treating a little boy like this..
put yourself in his shoes, would you remember things when you are being humiliated in front of your peers??
i can't stand teachers like that
i don't know either redhead but remember that as a parent, you have more power than you are aware of.. arm yourself with knowledge and march up to the school.. vocal parents with knowledge and determination can shake the foundations of any school..  It already started, the teacher is embrassing my son in front of the class....she says he's in lala land and needs to repeat 4th grade. What's that about??? I'm not sure which way to take that, i know he's overwhelmed but come on, she's not making the situation any better. My son now does not want to go to school. It's a fight every morning, says he hates school. I did not want to go through this again. To make things worse he forgot everything today, books needed to be covered, he forgot. I don't know if i should bail him out or let him get into trouble.

Redhead,

Does this teacher know that your son has Asperger's/ADHD???

Hi Redhead,

Yes, I concur with Mrs. Brookelea. Please do no more harm to your precious. It is the bad, unsafe, FRIGHTENING, abusive, inconsiderate person masquerading as a teacher that needs the lesson here. She is the perpetrator, and your son the victim. She probably has PMS, too, or her husband wouldn't put out last night...  Men! (are men).

She bugs me sooo much, that a little pest control may benefit the building she lurks in. She should be video taped in her moods, then have that broadcast to every teacher's lounge in America as a lesson on how not to lead our legacy.

Or, you could turn the T.OrnaD~og loose on her. I'll be gentle. I walk softly and carry a powerful pen. Seriously, if you have an email for her, I'll send her an edited version of Mrs. Glimmer's post.

Hey, here's a thought, I bet you the last laptop in laLA land that there is a teacher's forum somewhere here in nether-netherland. Anyone know of one where mean and nasty ones remove their masks and chill to chew their cherished chaos???

Now, before y'all Crucify Him all over again, and me2, I know there are a lot of mediocre teachers and a lot more not bad nor mediocre teachers out there, b/c I know them per sonally. They are, as the Tony says, GREAT!!! I'ts just we gotta promote the Mediocrates to GREATness, and graduate the flushables to at least mediocrity with a little sensitive Special Ed (for all I know, the bad ones have AD/HD, and need our help), or better yet, sensitivity training in our cavernous courtrooms. I'm sure there's available attorneys chomping at the bits and pieces.

It's all a matter of Education, tain't it?

And Mrs. Julie N. Newyork,

Include the balding bawl bufoon, too. Foot him where the sun cain't shine. Ask him how many tackles he missed. Pour guy, his coach probably trained his legacy like him.

On a serious note, please express an apology from an exCoach to an ex-but-hopefully-soon-to-be-again-Player. I perpetrated my share of vocal abuse in my day, so, I stand repenting. I am so sorry...

My memory stinks, so bear with me. Does your son have an IEP? If he doesn't, send a letter requesting one.

If he does, request another IEP meeting and have it put in the IEP that he will be quietly redirected and that the teacher must make every effort to do so without embarrassing him.

Be prepared with suggestions as to how this can be accomplished.

My son is in middle school and has 7 different teachers each day (5 "core" teachers).  I sent a letter to each of his 5 core teachers, and his guidance counselor letting them know my son's history in the classroom, asking for their advice and help, and also letting them know that in the past, he has been embarassed in the classroom for his focusing problems.  I asked them to please take him aside privately if they have any listening/attention problems with him, rather than addressing him in front of the class, and also suggested a "secret" reminder. Perhaps some sort of private signal from the teacher to my son to buckle down and pay attention (sometimes, all he needs is to be made aware of what he's doing.. because many times, he isn't!)    In the past, the teachers making these kinds of remarks in front of the whole class have really made him an outcast with the other kids, who feel like "if the teacher can pick on him, so can we".   So, I just sent the letters in yesterday .. I've had one response already (via email) and it seemed positive.  I tried to make it really seem like I wanted to "partner" with the teachers, hoping that it would make the old timers seem more receptive.. hopefully, this will work!!
Thanks guys for your advise. I talked with the teacher today, she's still trying to figure him out----whatever that means. About the book covers he has till friday, thank god. as far as school is concerned my son has absolutely no interest, he does miminal work that's needed. He forgets everything.
Hey Red,

That may be all he needs to do. I never did a lot of homeword, or work in school, was always horsing around. But I graduated, and went on to a checkered career.

His learning style may be different, and my advocacy is to find out the best environment for learning for each child, which only a parent can do, then enlist the educational system for the resources.

We ended up homeschooling 4 children for 10 years and they succeeded very well. The school system participated as a charter, so we had the best of both worlds.

Good luck, and train up that child in the ways he should go!

I agree with this.  I don't think I got much out of high school because it's kind of difficult to when you are skipping a good portion of the time and stoned the rest .  Ah, yes, but I went on to college and did very well (I'd sobered up by then).  Education comes at different times to different people.  I've had ESL high school students who had not been to school in their native countries, much less the U.S., and they graduated from high school in six years.   You just never know.

i totally agree with davido(whatever)!!

trying to fit a square peg kinda thing.  my child does learn differently and it's like a brick wall with the school in trying to get them to see this and do something about it!

homeschooling can be the best option but it takes you as the parent to really commit to it.  i did it for about 1/2 a year a couple years back with my son.  i may be looking into it again if i have any more struggles with the school.  aren't these folks "public servants" so to speak.  how come we don't have a say so in HOW  our kids are taught???

sorry, mini rant.
