I was put on Provigil by my doc when I was first diagnosed with ADD, it kept me awake, but did nothing for my ADD, and it gave me bad headaches, so I went to another doctor and was put on Adderal XR 25 mg, so much better, gave me energy and helped me with my focus.

Wanted to see if anyone else has tried provigil? doc said she didn't like adderall for adults, heart concerns, etc. I was wanting adderall...........
I am brand new to this forum and was not comfortable for soon to be obvious reasons sharing my response but here it goes.
I am 46, I was orginally dx'd about 8 yrs ago. Lost all info including my pysch 's name and number. Finally got dx'd again, 2 months ago. In the meantime, I started taking my mom's rx. of Progivil to give me energy. It seems to work for that very well but I am not sure it is helping my ADD. I want to ask my new doctor for an rx but I cannot tell them where I got it from or why I want it. FYI.. My mom has lung CA, they gave her Provigil to help with energy while taking Chemo. She has ADD also (un-dx'd, though) so she would forget to take it until the middle of the day and it would keep her up half the night. You MUST take it first thing when you wake up. It takes about 30 mins to kick in and lasts, approx 12-14 hours. You know when it wears off. The worst side affect I have found is it makes me even more talkative!! I did not think it was possible!. I can not stop myself either, although I am totally aware of it. My family and friends say they see no increase but I have already talked them to death and they are immuned.
I will monitor it now to see if it is helping my ADD. My pysch doc just increased my Adderall from 20mg to 30mg. So far, I can not see any effects. The Adderall does kill my appetite. I am hoping that finally losing 40 lbs will help many of my over 40 yrs old symptons like HBP and fatigue and low self-esteem and hopelessness.

Wow! Thanks for everything. I think I am going to like it here. I sat in on several of the ADD.org teleclasses for ADD Awareness Week, Sept. 14th. All three of them were great.
It is wonderful to finally met people like myself!!!
Again, Thanks

off. Provigil is a
histamine. It has an off-switch. Benadryl, which is an anti-histamine.
Believe me, it works. Only benadryl does it well, though I havn'et
tried other anti-Hs.

On a serious note, during GWI
(Gulf War I), during the 100 hour ground battle, the troops stayed
awake 24-7 using Provigil doses. "Stay Awakes". Much better than the
amphetamines they used before, no hallucinations long into the night...
I've pulled a few 40 hour shifts using it inappropriately, but necessarily (international jet lag).
As to where to tell your doc,
tell him you read about it's experimental use for ADHD (soon to be
labeled, in 2006 sometime), on an internet article. Don't let him find
out about this thread...
Good luck!

I'm on Provigil 400 mg + RitLA 60 mg. Good mix for me.
