neuro visit

She was looking at what I wrote down on the questionaires last visit & now she tends to think my daughter also has Add/adhd tendencies. I am so confused now. I have a form for her teacher to fill out, but she doesn't act like that at school. She did however, give me a numbing cream so I can try again with the blood tests. I am hoping that goes well. She weighs 105 lbs my daughter & she's 8. I weigh 115, so I am thinking it can maybe be a thyroid problem or diabetes, so I really need to get her test done. Not again. :' yaeh sounds like it could be thyroid.  i would have her retested

If she really has a problem with getting bloodwork done and it is important enough, maybe her dr could prescribe something which will calm her down when you take her in for it.

Good luck, laura. I can't tell you how long it took even the NeuroPsych to figure out my son. He had to see him six two hour slots to see the PDD-NOS. At first he thought he probably had Aspergers, since he is verbal. Then he tested him and found he had too many cognitive deficits to fit as Aspergers (plus he'd had a speech delay). What he said at the end, which is as honest as it gets is, "Since there is no blood test for autism, the closest I can come to giving you an accurate diagnosis is PDD-NOS because he doesn't fit in anywhere else, but he is definitely on the spectrum." I've seen many kids labeled Aspergers or higher functioning autism that seem much worse than my son, so I always think that, within the labels of the various autistic spectrum disorders, the doctors are basically saying, "He's autistic---I'm not sure how high functioning--I will give it my best shot." It doesn't really matter though. As long as they get the interventions that they need, that's the main thing. My son had many sit down/performance tests he had to do and they took a lot of time. He also had that computer test for ADHD, which he flunked, but the neuropsych explained that ADHD-like inattentiveness and touchiness is part and parcel of all types of autism. I really wish everyone could find a professional as good as ours. We got lucky (after nine years)!!! Good luck :)Thanks for the replies.............PSM----------the neuro is sending me to have alot of tests & she didn't dx really yet.  She just said suspected..........So hopefully when I get everything said & done, I will know exactly..........I can't wait..........Thanks PSM---- I know there is no blood test for it, the blood test is to check my daughter's thyroid, lead levels, diabetes, & some other things.  She seems thorough though.  She also gave me paperwork for my daughter's teacher to fill out to check the ADHD/ADD found on one test.  It is all getting very confusing.  But we have another appt. in December, I am hoping to learn more.  My daughter had no speech delays.  Last year, the teacher had her checked for speech but I told them this was because of a large space between her two front teeth.  Which is true.  She was supposed to have a muscle cut in her gum in the front, but because of her low pain tolerance, me & the dentist decided to sort of "wait & see" if when all of her big teeth come in, it may close up.  She is definately on the spectrum with her sensory issues.  But my daughter is also overweght, she weighed in at 105 and she is 8.  So I want to rule out anything else first.  If autism is in the picture, including Aspergers, ADHD like symptoms are expected, but it's really not seperate ADHD. Stims are tried with some kids with Austic Spectrum Disorder. They did not help my son so we just do with accomodations. I hope the NeuroPsych did a very thorough exam. Some do a lot of in depth testing and some are, imo, too quick (one/two visits). It took until my son was 11 for me to finally see clarity with him so it does take time. We were trying ever since he came to our family at age 2. Nine years is a looooooooong time to be searching. From experience, a regular neurologist will miss any sort of autism unless it is very low functioning. They aren't good at diagnosing it. Yes, my son had been to at least three, maybe four. I lose count. psm090438615.5934953704

We tried the numbing cream for my daughter last time she needed a blood draw, and it worked wonders.  (Make sure you do it about an hour before and reallly goop it on.)  But she's never as anxious as my son.  I don't think numbing cream would do anything for my son's anxiety.  He just goes into a doctor's office and freaks out.  I think I told you we needed to get Klonopin so he will calm down enough for blood draws, throat cultures and shots.  Hope it works for your daughter.

Laura, the neuro dr. said to us that my son is borderline Add, but he's a complicated kid. I'm confused too, so you are not the only one. Right my son is on meds for the Add, and the Dr. said not to take him off of it. I hope you find out whats going on with the blood tests. Good luck...
