Just prescribed Adderall | ADHD Information

My doc prescribe 10 mg Adderall XR to me today.  Tomorrow will be the first time I take it.  Any advice or anything from any veterans here?

Also, does anyone know if I can split the dose into 2 - 5 mg doses to start with.  The pharmacist said I shouldn't do that cuz that will mess up the controled release.  But I could swear I've read that people have done that.  Opened up the capsules and sprinkled out 1/2 onto some food or something.

I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to drugs sometimes.

I'm also taking 300 mg Wellbutrin XL and Lexapro 10mg.  I'm becoming a walking pharmacy!

Thanks!

I think your pharmacist is right. You're medication will not last a shorter peroid of time if you only take half. 10ng is a pretty small dose. The effects last 8-12 hours. If you open the capsule you may get more of the "immediate release" part of the medication and less of the "extended release". Then if you take the second half later in the day, you'll be up all night. The only medications that can be cut in half are ones that have a line down the middle. Talk to your MD about your apprehension

I'm taking 25mg XR myself. I love it! It's helped me in so many ways, I won't bore you with details. I have dry mouth asd a side effect and that is the only noticeable problem

I can understand being wairy taking a new med. You have no way of knowing what it may do to you. Adderall has the least ammount of reported side effects than the other meds. If you still feel nervous you can ask your MD to give you 5mg immed. release (lasts 2-5 hours) Adderall before you start taing the XR. Good luck,  keep us all posted on how things ae going!

I recently started on 10mg Adderall XR and the one thing I can advise is to carefully watch your diet... I noticed that I drastically reduced my food intake and within a few days became dizzy and very confused - almost to the point where I Was ready to goto the emergency room.

I was given some excellent advice from someone ( she may post here, not sure ), which basically was to make sure you are taking in enough carbohydrates and protien to avoid 'sugar crash'. After taking her advice my side-effects have all but dissapeared - great news!

One thing she suggested in particular was spreading out meal times so you are constantly snacking during the day, this provides a continuous source of energy for your body and helps tremendously with side effects.

Thanks for the pep talk and advice!  I'm sure I'll be fine but I'm always afraid to take something I've never taken before.

I do tend to eat small amounts of food throughout the day.  People make fun of me because to them it looks like I'm "always" eating, and I'm fairly thin so they don't understand!    But that is just the way I have always eaten - small amounts consistently throughout the day.

Well, I'll post as soon as I get a chance and let you all know how my first day goes!

Holy cow - who turned all the lights on??    What a difference a day makes!   Took my first dose this morning (probably around 7 am) and got to work, now are you read for this . . . , EARLY!!!  Yes, before 8!!  I'm supposed to start at 8.  Luckily we don't have to punch a time clock or I'd been fired a long time ago.

Got to work right away when I got there (usually don't "get going" for 1 to 1/2 hours) and really got quite a bit done today.  I even organized some things!

I can see I was worried for nothing cuz the 10mg was just fine.  And the "come down" seems pretty smooth.  Or maybe it's the Wellbutrin but I don't feel depressed or anything but I can tell it's not "working" anymore.  I would say it wore off around 3:30.

So this is probably the "honeymoon" period and we'll see what happens over the long run, but so far so good!  I'm a happy camper!

Kimo-

I'm glad that things are working out for you!  I hope everythig continues to go well!!! Let us all know!
