Advice to Parents on ADHD

Our pediatrician recommended the misunderstood child by Larry Silver but when I went to the library yesterday this was the only book by him that they had available - so I checked it out.

It does a very good job of explaining what causes (or may cause) ADHD as well as explaining exactly what is different about the brain of an ADHD child.  It goes into depth explaining comorbidities and how they effect the ADHD child and how sometimes children are initially misdiagnosed.

It isnt the easiest read - There is a fair amount of medical jargon to slog through but it does seem to be a good resource.  This is a book I may purchase if my son ends up with any comorbidities - In that case I can imagine it would be good to have this sort of 'parent's diagnostic tool' available.

Has anyone else read this book?  What were your thoughts?

which book are you referring to? Is it the one your ped reccommended or another one?  Is it called "Advice to Parents on ADHD"?barb38161.3367939815

the title of the book I am curently reading is "Advice to Parents on ADHD"  sorry I didnt do a better job of making that clear

In this forum the title is always (or should be) the title of the forum

well I finished the book and I must say I think this book would make an excellent starting point.  Dr Silver does an excellent job of turning medical jargon into words normal folks can understand

I found the bits on working with the school systems to be particularly interesting.  I would love to discuss it with anyone else who has read it!
