                 brig,

I hope you remembered to clean the WHOLE FREAKN' HOUSE before you packed.  That's what DW has to do before we leave.  Drives me out of my bleepin' mind.  Many a time we have left at 9:30, 10:30 pm or later for a 8-10 trip and just stop at a hotel and waste 60-80$, when we could have gotten up at 5 am and driven almost as far the next day.

Thanks for letting me vent  *&%#@!!

Hope you have a good trip.

I can SO relate to all of your posts.  My suitcase for an over night trip, can look like I'm going to stay a month.  An I also have a bag of some sort, that I'm stuffing things in as I leave the house.

I also have so much stuff on the floorboard that I can barely get my feet in the car.  Purse, makeup, book, crochet,.... pillow, and blanket.

TAKE YOUR SPEED , PACK & GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!!

This is so funny (I don't mean your distress is funny, brig!). Funny as in
coincidence, because this week I found a great resource that might help:
it's a free web application that generates a packing list for any occasion.
I'd be curious as to whether it actually works for a real life situation.

Universal Packing List

Well, there's only one glitch in this theory, I need to find a spouse first! Any takers? :-)

I hate packing and what I hate even more is unpacking. I have suitcase in my bedroom/living room for days after the trip. I sometimes wait until the next trip to unpack and pack again.

I do have a great tool for packing though. It's a PDA program. Mine is called splash shopper and you can make all sorts of list. I have a travel list and once you type it in once, you can reuse it for the rest of your life (or the life of the battery of your PDA). You just click and unclick what you need depending on where you go. I have not forgotten anything in a while. I use it for groceries, books to check out, etc. It's awesome.

If anyone has any tips for unpacking (other than getting a spouse :-) ) please advise! They're expensive :-) Just kidding.

yeah like that would happen...he is LAZY and not a member of the ADDer club...just plan lazy

I am the same way. I always end up having to stuff things into a grocery bag on my way out the door because I realized I might need them. I get there and use about 1/2 of what I thought I couldn't live without! Of course I have to get something there that I should have brought. Hopefully, that is something inexpensive since I may never need it again.

Have fun!

bingo....exactly what i do i am now on my way outta the door and filled up two grocery bags....i will check in with everyone periodically this weekend as my sis has internet.  hope things go well for everyone. and hope you all have a great weekend!!1

i am going away for the wekend and am leaving in just 2 hours.  of course i am slow at getting motivated when i freak out about forgetting something.  i have tried in the past to make a  list and low and behold have still forgot half of what was on the list.  there are 5 of us and i am responsible for packing for 4 of us.

i am stressing to the point of no return as where we are going is three hours away and it isnt like i can just come home and get what i forget.

on a postive note, i do have our adhd meds packed and half the clothes....but i cant figure out what three outfits outta a hundred i have laying out i want to take.  is this an adhd thing or is it just me?

thanks for letting me vent!!

Hey chJonesy,

You Are A Poet!

I wonder if you know it?

LOL !!!! this is part of a list it generated for a one day stay with family!!!
Compass
Binoculars
Pens
Candle
Poker cards ( Playing cards )
Earplugs
Lighter ( Matches )
Rubber door-wedge
Sunglasses
Keys
Pepper Spray canister
Universal faucet valve handle and radiator key
Who packs? Just throw it all in the trunk. Then nobody'll steal it. They'll see an ADDer mess, and freak out.
you guys are all cracking me up....too bad i didnt take so darn long to pack that i didnt get to read all this till i got back.  my hubby was pissed as i had packed way tooo much for two days, but believe it or not the only thing i forgot was lotion and my sister had that.  but as we got on the road my smart *ss hubby has the audacity to say to me "did you forget anything" and i said yep. and he asked what i forgot and i told him i would let him know when i needed it and it wasnt with us...it pissed him off but i thought it was funny.

That IS fuunnnyyy  .   That's almost like what I say, 'well I have everything 'cept for what I forgot'.  My  wIFe still rarely gets my humor {oh is that what you call it}.

My wife lies to me about what time we have to leave, b/c she knows i'll forget stuff and turn around to get it, and miss the flight...

Once I didn't forget anything, and got to the airport 2 hours early, and I was pissed...

Such a good waste of time!!! Nothin to rush around for...

No crisis to feel good about...

every trip i take overwhelms me list or not.

camping is the worst stress. even though i have good habits for being prepared for wilderness, i always have to repack at trailhead to winnow out lots of weight, duplications, and what may not be helpful where and when i'm going.

if i have to get me and my two kids packed, it will take lots more time and stress. i am always late to the rendez-vous regardless.

i LOOOVE hiking --- i think it is what i was born to do.

there is this beautiful circuit in Switzerland which takes about three days and there are cabanes along the way so you needn't take a tent, although you need sleeping bags cos the cabanes are fairly basic shelters.

and omg the VIEWS...  there is one part where you get to the crest of the col and just over the top is the most phenomenal sight of a turquoise lake and then miles and miles and miles of land you can see as far as Geneva probably --- boy, it makes my heart leap into my mouth every time.

just walking and sleeping and eating repeat ad infinitum - fantastic.

tips for unpacking:   take the suitcase and open it up and tip it upside down and empty it into the garbage.....jk

i also hate unpacking more too

The  more I read the more I can't believe  how similar my issues are.  In July, my husband and I got in a major argument regarding  packing up for our weekend trip.   He told me he could to the packing in half the time I do it.  Since I pack for me and our daughters (that's including a  3 mos old baby) I should have  said that  packing just for himself doesn't count.

I wish I was diagnosed and found this website much much sooner.
