Question??I tend to agree with Hopper. I think the frustration in not being able to handle a certian situation builds until they are hurting and don't know how to release the anger. Sometimes they physically hurt themselves and sometimes they physically hurt loved ones around them. A book that helps explain this phenomenon and how to handle it is The Explosive Child by Ross Greene. I disagree that it's for attention all the time. Autistic Spectrum Disordered kids do things like that. There is one autistic kid I know that pinches his face. It's a "stim" for him. Remember, this child is not pure ADHD. He is also Aspergers, give is a whole other ballgame. On the other hand, he could do it out of frustration combined with the inability to express it, since autistic spectrum kids can not normally express how they feel. On another note, does his face itch? My son is ALWAYS itchy and can't tolerate the feeling. He picks off his scabs once they start to heal because they itch. It's very maddening, but that's autism! |
