Do You Do Mornings Well? | ADHD Information

Hey, I didn't know leaving a poll would leave a blank message post. What a waste of white space!

I have to agree with Wordwoman (!!!) below. I panic everytime my alarm goes, and doesn't go, off...
Davidornado38619.959212963The word "alarm" pretty much sums up how I feel when mine goes off.  Surely human beings are not designed to be "alarmed" into wakefulness.i have always found it easy to wake in the mornings except when at
school or had a job. i still wake straight away and don't feel sleepy but
when working i could not force myself out of bed (not that i was sleepy
exactly but i hated getting out of bed).

now i have the whole day to myself i can't wait to leap out of bed (i guess
not dissimilar difference to how many children react between school and
holidays, right?).

i had a whole constant slew of excuses for my lateness... (tube delays/
bad traffic/important phone call/alarm didn't go off etc. etc. etc.) but i
never overslept my alarm once and very rarely was the journey into work
troublesome --- i just had an internal battle to force myself to do what i
really didn't feel like doing! if i had been honest i should have said "i was
pushed into the mattress by an invisible force that i battled with but it
took me a good 35 minutes to win - by which time i was 35 minutes late!"

I hate getting up. I have had many occasions where I overslept the alarms (because I always have at least 2, sometimes 3) and came to work as late as 10-11 am. Very embarassing.... I had to make up a bad case of PMS once in order to justify coming that late.

Anyone has similar story to share?
On or off meds, I cannot go to sleep. So, doalk  gave me Ambien. I'ts a knock out, but I still wake up groggy. Not until RitLA kicks in do I feel like I have a brain.
If I Only Had A Brain.

I should start a new poll on that.
On or off meds, I cannot go to sleep. So, doalk  gave me Ambien. I'ts a knock out, but I still wake up groggy. Not until RitLA kicks in do I feel like I have a brain.

I mentioned before in another thread that I don't remember the first hour I am up so I really don't know how I'm "doing it". I do know when I am stirring - no alarm - my cat gently starts touching my face with its paw.  If I still don't get up he slightly exposes his claw and gently touches me again.  That is when I stumble out of bed, fall down the stairs, make my coffee and sit outside for an hour while I become concious.

Pre meds - I was totally the insomniac.  Whenever I got up I had to exhaust myself before sleep came.  It was horrible in school - was dazed and confused most of the time.

As an adult same thing - was having to force sleep to get enough for work.  I knew my troubles were coming when I would lose jobs by sleeping in - usually a year or two into any job that was common.

After meds - for the first months it was awesome! I would just click to sleep - bam lights out.  Wake up without alarm and it was paradise!  Lately though I have to discipline myself to do it - but it still comes when I try.  Wish the effort-free time came back but you can't have it all.

I don't feel anymore that drive to stay up - it's a nightmare when it comes.

if i get moving when i wake up(usu. 5 am), then i am good in the a.m.

if i fall back asleep, i can count on being foggy, groggy, and grouchy most of the day.

if i have reading, or work proposals/billing to do, it has to be done before noon or so. if i don't, it takes something short and of exceptional interest to me or i will fall asleep on the spot.

afternoons are often a drag b/c i frequently get very very sleepy, esp. if i eat lunch. have to be very occupied to not be found napping then.

caffeine early, caffeine late, but midday helps me nod off.

currently no med's.

have even cut back drastically on self-medicating. same results.

Do you take ADDer meds?

Or anti-Ds?
I wish I could figure out some way that I would not have to go to work again chjones, but I'm guessing that won't happen anytime soon. Sooooo jealous of you!

My poor son is lucky if he has time to eat breakfast before he has to leave for school because I will sleep until the last minute, then rush him around. He often eats in the car on the way to school.

If I got up early and tried to get him up though, he would wait until the last minute, so I just beat him to it!

chjones, thats so adhd of you   i'm the same!!!

Somehow I can set myself to wake up at anytime I want. Haven't use an alarm in years.

I normally do very good in the morning. But I have young kids and waking up at night has taken it's toll on me. But I'm starting to catch up.

Unfortunetly my internal alarm does not turn off on the week end. Nore my daughter's...
