Hi Binky, you have indeed come to the right place if you are
looking for others who are
adhdlicious
excuse me in advance as I am pmsing so badly the Adderall has given up and left
me to my own devices, only I don't have any.
It would seem that Glen W., whose posts I always read, has given you quite a
bit of info. I can't wait till I meet a sweet person like that with adhd brain
chemistry.
I live in lalaland to the West of you, we of the rainforest and L.A.
mini me mentality (RmE). My blue cross from work (which may go soon as things are
coming to a head there big time, (see we're all messed up too!!!) covers 80% of
my prescrips and my doc (see him every week, sad I know) is fully covered.
Binky, there are many messy lives who come to this board and with the dark,
light of course so most of use probably have some really unique and valuable
talents and gifts that could get us far in life if we knew what was going on
w/our brain and if our circumstances had been different. If you feel like
things are going to or are crashing down, hey, let’s make a party out of it. My
crashing and yours together could probably rock the house!!
At every turn I would do the wrong thing without even understanding why (the person in my head was NOT the same person in real life). This resulted in some pretty traumatic things happening and cause I have a child this was very bad.
I have also self medicated since a teenager and I grew up in Montreal where all anyone did was go to Afghanistan so at 14 I was trying to alter my brain chemistry and I’ve never stopped. I don’t drink and well, you know where I live so self med is top of the line. My doc said that if it helped me survive all this time I shouldn’t feel bad about it but I know he is paranoid now about the Adderall and isn’t sure what I’m doing.
Binky, I waited about 18 months after figuring out the adhd to try a med, I was already on Wellbutrin for anxiety/depression. The moment the first one hit me I went into shock. My brain behaved very differently, and my depression lifted immediately. I thought, oh, this is why everyone is able to accomplish so much and not constantly be saying, doing, thinking, subconsciously thinking the ”wrong thing”...wrong as far as the nonadds go.
I’ve been doing osme (I’m leaving that, I keep transposing my letters when I type, constantly now, what is that??) research and I think that the info in the link below has it right as far as adhd itself doesn’t cause depression, anxiety, anger problems, it’s the nonadds and their hypocritical, shallow society. Since you’re born w/this as a child how you are treated can set you up and as an adult there’s no solid foundation. Everyone has different severity, if you were self medding like crazy you may just be closer to the top of the scale.

You can’t help that you were born with this. When you said you erased 10,00 words did you mean on purpose?
Glad you found
this board and lucky you that d2 was watching out for you, S
Did you know that tricksters can change people’s lives?
OMG! GlenW is a Canuck!!!
How come I didn't know that?
Now I'll ping you...
LOL - David you goofus - read my posts!!! ROFL
Ok here's a start for directory of canadian physicians
most every doc in canada is listed - as you need to be cma authorized to get the canadian medical insurance. And - duh - there is NO other .... yet. Gulp.
So all docs in all areas are there. Not listed by specialty per se - but they are all there. The blue pages up here are government listings - and should be a starting point (one i used). Look up http://www.crha-health.ab.ca/clin/cme/cme.htm
for the local calgary health region - they list much more too.
Well, I've done my googleing tonight LOL.
Hope it was some help.
And david - all ya had to do was ask!

Hey Glen,I want help but I am not sure where to go, of if there is any help for me that applies. I have been looking on the web but everything I find turns out to be a front for a drug company trying to peddle meds.
heh I just erased about 10 000 words. Anyways, does anybody know of a place in or near Calgary Alberta Canada where I could seek treatment? I have no money so I cant pay for anything so it would have to be free. I would commit to an in-patient program if I had to, although I really dont want to and I have extensive experience with correctional facilities so its very possible I would simply fall back into the pattern of a "playing the system until I can get out" mentality in which nobody could possibly help me because everything I said or did would simply be a well calculated lie.
I honestly want to sort things out and maybe somehow learn to function in ways that it seems everybody but me takes for granted. I was involved in psychological treatment and medication when I was younger but the medication aspect stoped when the head psychiatrist at foothills hospital refused to treat me once he discovered I had been using illegal narcotics, and the second doctor had to stop seeing me when my insurance ran out and I could no longer pay him.
I dont know if many of my problems can be solved, it may be possible I have done irreversable damage to my brain through drug use. My memory is shot, and trying to concentrate on anything is so much harder then when I was a kid.
Its also possible that all of my problems are directly and purely adhd, I dont know.
Could anybody steer me towards someplace that could help? The last time I tried to explain how adhd affected how my mental capabilities were severely curtailed by my inability to concentrate even long enough to articulate a simple idea as my mind is constantly bombarded with so many simultanious thoughts, the doctor or med studant or whatever he was dismissed me as a drug addict and its been about 9 years since I have even considered treatment since that day.
I seriously cant live like this much longer, something is going to give either way, very soon. One way or another I need to slow my mind down.
binky38621.9953009259Hey Binky,
Welcome! We have several 'Nucks on board, I'll ping some your post. In the meantime, chin up, chill, and hang on for the ride...
Here's a few links to peruse, and one may have Canadian medical providers. Never thought of asking, though. I'll let you try.

Welcome fellow canuck!
You seem very lucid and word-wise - I don't think your brain is beyond hope LOL. Seriously - you seem very savable like us all.
Luckily you're in the right country for help. Please tell me you've paid up your alberta health care premium?? Do you have blue cross too - remember it's only about 30 a month and should cover most of the meds you can be prescribed.
Your medical appointments are all covered. That's a given. You also get free psych appointments at about one every 2 weeks or a month. Can't remember but there's a limited number that's free to you.
Check out the university of Calgary. They have ongoing testing and therapy for adults with ADHD. I've seen they are looking always for people to try new trial meds so check it out! They would cover all the extras if you get in there.
ADHD is complex and isn't the same for all of us. The best thing you can do is get in and see a MD who knows about adult ADHD - and get a reference to a qualified psychiatrist. If you do get or have blue cross you should pay very little for a med like ritalin or dexedrine. Strattera isn't covered by even my company medical and it's 140 a month so don't bother. Dexedrine with my med plan runs 40 a month for 60 mg/day. That's way better than without the plan and blue cross is comparable. The less you make the less they charge too!
good luck there - and stick around you'll learn so much!
