Oh my gosh Nightstar, that MUST have been terrifing! I've only expierienced one and that was a small one that just rattled the windows and scared the hell out of everyone! That happened 20 some yrs ago when i spent a brief time in Phila. Here in Florida, its the herricanes i'm scared of and the wicked lightning! evactuations are scary.
Hope you feel better soon. after what you've been through, you diden't need all thishow long have you lived in California? the earth quakes we're a major reason we never wanted to live there. But i have heard it's really beautiful there.
I think we'll stay here in Fl. and put up with the herricanes and lightning. Hope the week gets better for you. I'm just unmotivated today, but i have to snap out of it, if the ADD monster will cooperate
I got to sleep later then I should have 1am (unusual for me), then 10 minutes later an Earthquake woke me up! We have never had one of them here before... well not in my life time. Shook the whole house so I called the police station to inform the lady there that we had just had one, she argued with me wanting to know how close to the railroad tracks we were.
I knew I was right, cause dear husband lived out in California long enough to know that was what we felt. Well anyway first thing next morning checked the news and sure enough 4.5 earthquake for our area.
I am just so sore today, my back is out from a week ago falling on my back on the cement. My knee even hurts and my shoulders... plus just started having a sore throat.
I hate these kind of days, I just spent the last half hour or more laying on the floor, trying to shake off this terrible feeling, least my eyes feel better, but I just don't think I am going to be getting much done today just feeling this much off.
Hang in there!
Lack of sleep always makes my ADD much worse and makes me feel like crud. I just have to accept that I am going to feel lousy and try to deal with it the best I can.
It will pass. Have strength!
I have never lived in California, this happened of all places North Central Illinois last night!
It didn't scare me, but sure made me alert right fast - waking up... they seemed small and just could tell the house what shaking, just a rumbling sound throughout the house, nothing knocked over. And it was brief, over just as quick as we realized what happened.
DH comes from California, and had been out there 8 years to know, I was just guessing since never encountered these things before.
I had heard that there was another earthquake a few weeks ago down Missouri direction, the one we had last night they said was feld - in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconson, and Missouri.
I am coming down with a cold, just totally killing productivity today... so tempted to go home, but I did call doctor for Wed appointment and will just have to wait a few more days.
NightStar,
I just read the article! You have had one eventful day! I hope you are feeling better when you read this.

I would also recommend Cold-Eaze. But you have to take them within 48 hours of the onset of cold symptoms. I swear by that stuff! It won't make the cold go away, but it really lessens the symptoms and the cold doesn't seem to last as long. They are like cough drops, you suck on them and they have a bunch of zinc in them. Which, btw, helps sooth sore throats.
Back in the 80's we had an earthquake in the Cleveland Ohio area. I work in a place that has lots and lots of nasty chemicals in underground storage tanks. We thought the place was blowing up! The epicenter was just a few miles from where I work, right by a freakin nuclear power plant! Turns out there's a fault line there. What idiot decided to put a nuclear power plant on a freakin fault line???
It was 5.something. Nothing fell over but things were definitely moved a couple of inches. Scary scary!
I could kick myself on the sore throat issue,
A few days ago I plugged in an air freshener that smells like lotion (which last time made my throat sore just like now). This time, I was around that stuff way too long before I realized what it was.
I use to have a girl work in the office with me, that I just had fits whenever she wore lotion. It is definitely going to take a few days to shake this terrible sore throat now.
My back hurt so bad, that I had to take off work early to get it put in place. I know I will be going back for more then one treatment for this one.
Finally found the local news link for the earthquake - thought you would find it interesting:

Yeah; it's kinda wierd how they measure them. For every whole point it measures; they figure 100 times in strength. From experiencing many different strengths; that seems a bit exagurated to me; but I'm no geology expert. There is a VERY noticable difference between a 5.5 and a 6.5. One scares you; and the other terrifies you. And ther are many different movements depending on the fault lines and how they bounce off one another. The quake that hit in 87 made things jump off the floor in an upward motion. My brother sprained his ankle in that one as he was launched out of bed. We were very close to the fault line though; maybe a mile or so. I know this is probably way more info than you wanted; but I just wanted to let you know that I understand your fear of these things. It's not unusual considering that in a large earthquake; weight and gravity don't matter. It a force that is not constrained by those physics. It really is amazing that they can build structures that will hold up to that kind of force in America. And in 3rd world countries a magnitude of 5 on the Rickter scale will kill thousands without our advanced building technology gr8art38169.6803240741
Boy what you have experienced is quite a difference to what we felt, 4.1 they down graded it. I know I would be jumpy if it was greater strength or even lasted longer then what it did.
What we experienced was just a low rumble vibration through the walls, did not actually shake anything.
Well feeling bad as all get out - didn't get anything for my sinus problem.
BUT I get to go back for blood work to retest both if I am still Bi-Polar and also ADHD. Plus test for being Diabic, so finally feel like I am making ground.
My doctor also give me Strattera to start 40mg once a day - so I will start looking around here to see what everyone taking this med has experienced.
Ok, now I got to lay down - and hope that big mac truck that ran over me finally backs up! LOL
I'm originally from Southern Cali; and let me tell you; some people say they "get used" to earthquakes; but I don't really believe them. I was there in 71 for the Sylmar quake (6.8 I think) and I was there in 87 for the Whittier Narrows quake (6.0); and for the Landers ,Big Bear, and Northridge quakes.(7.1) Our house craked all over. The furniture slid a couple of feet; and the air conditioner blew right out of the window. We weren't hurt; but my poor wife needed meds to calm down. Enough was enough and we moved to Oregon in 93 only for the ground to start shaking in Portland the day after we arrived. (but it was only a 5) That was the last one; and hopefully the last one I will ever feel. You don't get used to them really; you just learn to cope with them or move. To me; they are absolutely terrifying when they keep rolling. Most of the ones I have felt have lasted over a minute. The ones that stop by the time you realize whats happening aren't too scarey; but when they keep going; one wonders just how big it will get. A couple of those; I was seriously wondering if we were going to die.
Just realized they down graded the magnitued to 4.1
I am feeling physically better then yesterday - kept tossing and turning last night, even woke up at 2:30 this morning. Back still feels a bit yuk, but hopefully I can play catch up today.
I am taking tomorrow off, and plan to see the doctor, and fight with him one more time about getting tested, and also check to see if I am diabetic, since I get tired all the time when eating.
I think that is what wiped me out yesterday morning having to lay down - I don't ever do that at work, but that is just how messed up I have been feeling lately.
Fortunately my experience did not scare me, I would say more surprised me.
Only lasted I would say less then 1/2 minute if that, was a low rumbling that was felt through the walls and it disapeared just as quick to leave one wondering if it really happened.
But I can just imagine had it been stronger, or lasted longer - I would of definitely been concerned to scared real fast.
I agree, that it is a terrible thing what technology we have with buildings here, to what other countries have - over the last few years hearing about the mass deaths resulting. Just disheartening out of all the things the government wants to sink money into that they don't focus more on needs of these poor countries, - to share the technology or something.
I don't claim to understand much of the going ons, but we are not doing something that ought to be changed.
