Whenever my adderall wears off I start eating and i eat and eat and eat and I can't make myself stop.. my roommate has to rip the bags out of my hands and hide them. This is a big problem. The other day i went through a whole can of pringles, a bag of popcorn, two bags of those smartie things and was about to do the cookies before she stopped me. I don't know what to do.. help!!! Stop buying junk food! If you don't have it, you can't grab it. Have fruits and veggies on hand instead. You may have to consider a change of meds if that is a side effect for you. Wait 'til you pass one...
Uh David? I think maybe you forget they recommend cutting them up. Eating one whole may pass something unpleasant I imagine! What're those things called come out of your oil thing?
Garlic stones? Egg stones? I forget. ![]() Oil thing? Exactly what planet were you born on David? Wow - I'd get that whole "oil-thing" looked at if I were you!

Which drug causes this overeating when it wears off? I'd like to know for future reference, as I already over-eat without meds.
The other reason we binge eat later in the day is becuase we're serotonin deficient, and we get these carbo-cravings to supplement our deficiency once the meds wear off. Next time you get the urge, eat some brown turkey meat, or some peanuts or peanut butter. Chocolate milk is good, too. These all have higher levels of tryptophan, which is a precursor to serotonin. Yum! I need some sero-food!
Thanks David, my only problem is, that all that takes preparation - and I'm bad at that. I either: a: have to go food shopping first 1. prepare the food in advance for the week z. remember to take with me to work or d. have the willpower of steel not to grab those:cookies, starbursts, chocolate etc, in place of turkey or peanut butter. Alas, I believe I'm a hopeless cause. I'm an oxymoron (or just a moron) being a fat gym owner. (well, not fat, but seriously in need of losing say, hmm, 10 or 50 pounds!! Hey Val, You oughta try some of those new exersizes brookelea and dareboys came up for your new jym. They lost weight real fast!
Oil thing? Exactly what planet were you born on David? Wow - I'd get that whole "oil-thing" looked at if I were you!
Terrie got it. Gall bladders release oil metabolizing substances, but sometimes get all galled up, and release garlic stones or gall eggs... As for the planet, it's called Quelyn- home of JeADHDi Nights... Confucious-ornado, you are confucious-ing me! So, anyone know what these arm bands advertised in the upper right corner look like? I'm dying to be a walking billboard for Ritalin.
Were these magical exercises in this post somewhere and my addled mind didn't see them? I'm anxious to know what I need to do? Is it that if I "pass" a whole eggplant through the oil shoot, I can expect to lose weight? I would only hope.![]() Storm, Are you eating properly during the day, while on meds? If you aren't eating during the day it is no wonder you are hitting the snacks. How about eating a real healthy full fledged meal when meds wear off. i wish i had some of that problem, i forget to eat anyway, until my hunger pains act up, but now on strattera i dont get them i have to be reminded to eat and am lucky if i eat once a day....so storm you pm me to eat and i will pm you not to eat......maybe it will work for both of us!!
Storm, Are you eating properly during the day, while on meds? If you don't have it, you can't grab it. Have fruits and veggies on hand instead.
That always sounds like such a good idea, and yet the Cheez-Its beckon to me..... storm - I found similar problems with my dexedrine spansules. I would take them - and when not on them I would find myself binging on everything I could find. I agree with a lot of the people posting that it might be lack of caloric intake during your medicated times. Are you trying to eat while on meds? Sounds like most of what you are eating is carbohydrates. It's possible you're putting out so much energy during your day that your body is craving carbos to replace your energy. They release quickly (sugar is a carbo too) so your body knows it can get instant relief if it's starving for power. Perhaps try and shop for things that balance the carbs with other fillers - I prefer rice mixed meals I cook now - with protein from meat and veggie filler. Try and avoid the fried carbs and that will help. It does balance out for the most part. I work about triple the energy output than I used to pre-med and I crave energy as soon as I get home. I try and eat a healthy meal right before my meds which I take 2 hours before work. I take a nibbler with me for my 2 coffee breaks (sometimes chocolate bars - I hold my head in shame), then when I get home the energy deficit isn't anywhere near as bad. Do you take meds through the weekends? When I did I found the binging was even worse. Since taking the weekends off most weeks I find the cravings are nowhere near as bad. You may want to talk to your physician about it. You're supposed to get weighed and your BP checked for the first few weeks of meds and you should see then if there's a weight loss/gain and any detrimental health problems. Remind your MD or psychiatrist that it's required to keep an eye on you while adjusting. Hope you find your happy medium - it makes it easier for sure.
- Glen I eat a lot and non medicated. A healthy diet is 6 times daily with smaller amounts of food. Diabetics are to eat like that so try it. Keep junk food as a treat outside the home. Fast Matbolizer require more food. This home we manage it here. This how things use to be when we grew up. Tip : if it's in the home you will eat it so don't buy it then it's not so easy to have. Just keep it as a treat like i said . hey, those are good ideas.. thanks a lot.. i think my prob might be thefact that i dont eat very much on the meds cuz i become really unhungry.. so that makes sense that i would binge once the meds wore off.. thanks guys take some omega 3s and good protein shake before you take your meds.. they are filling and give you the health benefits for the day... Protein is key! I don't know how anyone with ADHD can eat anything but protein--my brain hurts & I become mean & pissy without it every two hours--protein, that is. Also, I was reading in "Answers to Distraction" last night that when you "starve" your body, your ADHD actually thrives in a good way, intensity & focus increasing like ten-thousand fold or something. Not that this has anything to do with bingeing, but I assure you you are not alone. What I did to stop my really viscious bicycle of eating so much I couldn't breathe/have asthma attacks, going to get rid of it & then being hungry again, was religiously monitor the times I took my meds, & then supplemented them with shakespeare's suggestion of getting the most out of a tiny 5mg Adderall tablet by taking 15Omg of Zantac one half hour before. It only works for 6-8 hours (the Z-tac) so I do it again before my 3rd dose in the afternoon. Just fyi . . . PS-My destructive & helpful comments will be out in paperback at a bookstore near you soon . . . do we get a discount terrie???

Terrie - using Zantac with Adderal is NOT what I would suggest. Did you read the stuff the pharmacy is supposed to send with every bottle of adderal - dexedrine in general? Antacids are NOT recommended with them at all! they can increase the potentcy in unpredictable ways. At least - please check with your MD first - for me??? I care for each and EVERY one of you guys. Totally. Oh, and though protein is very important to us in particular - make sure you vary your diet - we're omnivores not carnivores! Make sure to include carbs (has anyone not seen that atkins doesn't work long-term?), veggies and fibre, and a mix of foods with minerals and vitamins. Better than a supplement if you can manage it. I think it's the old one of moderation. Works in the long term and doesn't end up making people crave any one thing. Moderation. anyway rant's done! Everyone stay healthy and happy - ok??
- Glen Which drug causes this overeating when it wears off? I'd like to know for future reference, as I already over-eat without meds.Hey, I'm hungry now with this all talk of food and nutrients. What's for dindin?
Which drug causes this overeating when it wears
do we get a discount terrie??? But of course! Not to mention a personally-autographed copy by yours truly. I shall, thx for the heads-up--I never read anything. Mines is Anti-
He's me BattleTrack...
Now I see the light--thx, davieTornado!![]() Eat high protein low refine carb dinners. Carbs are energy boosters and not needed for dinners. Eat before meds unless prescription says not to. Don't use caffeine or citrus while taking the medacine lessons absorbtion. Not at same time taht is. To put the wait back on mix vanilla protein mix with icecream shakes. Can use ovaltine in with shakes also. Good stuff Bren - but you may want to mention that carbs in form of whole wheat or other grains are a good mix sometimes as the fibre is excellent for you - and water soluble fibre can aid digestion and avoid clogging your system and keep it all in good running order. As with anything - moderation!! I like rice in most of my staple meals - as it is a good neutral source of my carbs - and I usually use a higher-fibre grain of rice so I don't just get the tasty but less nutritious parts. I'm trying to add more veggies - but I still don't care for them. I use celery (pretty much zero everything - takes more calories to eat it than it contains!LOL), peppers (nice colors and good vitamins), and carrots. I am like a little kid though - don't eat brussel sprouts, cabbage (except for momma's famous german cabbage rolls!), turnips or other unsavory veggies. Just don't like em! Here's one to Puke On:
Eggplant.
The only thing it's good for is babaganoush. Eggplant? Never touched one. I have had a rule since a small kid - never eat anything purple. That's just not right! Besides - it smells like a fast food trashcan while cooking. EEWWW. |
