Extra hyper off meds | ADHD Information

if you are taking meds for inattentive type, your child shouldn't be bouncing off the walls once they have worn out...

maybe focalin isn't your child's cup of tea..

many ppl don't find their right medication until they have tried a few.. maybe your child needs to try something else..

My 8-year old has ADHD inattentive type.  We started giving him Focalin XR, and now notice that when he's off it, he's bouncing off the walls.  Jumping around, talking loudly, etc. Anyone else experience this?

I have not, yet I would assume that is textbook reaction, typical for ADHD.  Also, how long has he been on it (his meds/Focalin)?  I would think that would be a contributing factor.Looking at his diet might help also?Oh, we're on the long road.  Tried Dexedrine, Ritalin, Adderall... they all seem to lose effectiveness after a while.i wish you all the best on your odessey..

Thi is called rebounding as the medication is wearing off which is not uncommon with methylphenidate products. If you have already tried several medications and they seem to lose effectiveness after awhile, perhaps you should revisit the diagnosis. It sure is a long journey sometimes and very frustrating

My son is also the same way, not just during the time when he is rebounding, but also if I don't give him his meds at all. There has been twice that he hasn't been on them, once because we were camping and I simply forgot, and the other time was for an evaluation. Both times he was MUCH more hyper than he was before meds. I am not really sure why, but I have definitely seen a big difference.[QUOTE=jmom]
