Ritilan question - should I switch? | ADHD Information

Thanks everyone - your replies were really helpful. I guess I'm gonna hang in there with the Rit. a bit longer. Doc chgd me to 40 mg per day - yet now the the lovely and caring insurance company is being a weenie -so I may have to wait a few days before I can get my hands on it. Gotta love those guys and their red tape.

Thanks again, Anne Marie

I was just diagnosed a month ago - Adult ADD - I'm a 45 yrs old - In the USA

I've been taking Ritilan LA 20mg. for a month. After the first week I was over the "speedy weird - eyes dilated" feeling it gave me, and except for an occasional hour or so, I think my body has ajdusted pretty well.

I have noticed a lift of confidence, and better focus while working on a specific task. However I still bounce around, completing far less projects that what I start. (I start something then get destracted - you know the routine). I dont have any trouble sleeping - except that I find it close to impossible to drag myself out of bed in the morning. Once I'm up. all is ok, but getting up is the problem.

Motivation is still at an all time low. I am great at making lists - but that's as far as I get.

I'm wondering if I need to switch the dosage of the Ritilan LA or switch medications. Adderall seems to be very popular on this site. My primary care doctor didnt really know what to prescribe - she was just going on the advice of the Dr. from the Psychological Assessment Center where I had my testing done. ("pyschostimulant medications may be helpful") Ritlilan was a suggested first try.

I know none of you are doctors, but would still value any of your advice and/or opinions. I'm asking this on short notice - I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow to talk about my progress on the Ritilian LA.

Thanks everyone!

I would agree to try an increase..

I am on 20mgs metadate plus 10 more at lunch.. ( same main ingredient as Ritlain LA) Work on the dosage needed first, then if you or DR. thinks its warranted, switch meds.  At least it will give you more information for the starting dose on the next med if you find it is necessary.

That's funny about the "speedy wierd eyes dialated feeling"

the first day I took my RX, I felt the same way.... I even went to the bathroom at lunch to make sure my eyes diddnt look like I was high or something, LOL

Acutally I didnt get the speedy part.. I think I had a little euphoria.. Ijust felt sooooo calm and so blasted good!

You definitely need to increase the dosage, that is the dosage my six year old was on with that med! They always start out very low, I wouldn't recommend giving up with this med so soon for the reasons you have. I think you just need an increase. They always start very very low and step up the dose. My son started at 5, then 10, then 15, then 20. And he was only 49 pounds at the time. I am assuming you weigh a bit more than that so I am guessing you need a higher dose.     Good luck, let us know what the doc says!Hi shaggypaws.......The goal with medication is maximum benefit and minimal sides effects. Stimulant meds are not weight based and with regarf to which one is better, its all very indivdual. Normally the patient has to go through a trial of meds until the right dose and the target dose is found. Speak with your doc tomorrow and more than likely she will make a dosage increase of Ritilan La. Hang in there. It can take a while and good luck.Yes you should increase your dosage. My 10 year old is on 20mg of RitalinSR also. He was on this dosage at age 6 but it was too high for him. It is just right for him now. So I would think that you need a higher dose.
