Maybe you should ask the doctor about if he could have a mood disorder, Stimulant medications can bring out other disorders. Anxiety, Depression, Bi-polar, there is a safe mood stabilizer for children called Trileptal, that can help with all these issues and is also used for ADHD, ODD... it is safer to lower the dose of the stimulant while using a mood stabilizer.
Ask the doctor about a referral to see a specialist. It will really help if this is the issue. Stimulants by themselves can make other conditions show there faces worse ........if someone is induced into any mood disorder.
thank you,,,he does not seem to know why,,,but when it happens it is when there is to much stimulation of where he is at,,,,school,,,outting,,,or he is having a burnt out,,,and needs to sleep,,,but they increased his concerta and not having as much,,,he is on the highest level 54mg.,,,now i think what if he grows out of that,,,omg,,,, MY DD WOULD HIT DOORS WALLS PULL HER HAIR PULL AT HER FACE YELL SCREAM CRY, IT WAS ALL PARTS OF HER ADHD AND NOW THAT SHE IS ON MEDS FOR THE MOST PART THEY HAVE STOPPED . I WAS TOLD NOT TO GIVE INTO HER RAGES UNLESS SHE WAS HURTING HERSELF OR OTHERS THAN I WOULD TALK TO HER AND LET HER KNOW THAT IT WAS NOT NICE TO HURT HERSELF OR OTHERS AND GAVE HER OUTLETS TO CONTROL HER ANGER , LIKE DRAWING A PICTURE OF WHAT MADE HER MAD OR SENDING HER TO HER ROOM UNTIL SHE SETTLED DOWN BUT SHE IS ONLY 6. HOPE THIS HELPSintresting tid bit, when my boys got off there medicine, they would still act up alot(few months ago) it had alot to do with their environment at school and there room. too much stimuli in there room. we have decreased the amount of painting and pictures on the wall, and made everything organized and grouped, toys in one section,clothing in another. And rules posted on the wall,we talk about them on a daily basis, and also instead of just saying clean your room, or at school do this, we go into detail and show them a little what we are talking about. I am sure this is not new for alot of you, but for someone new to adhd, this was greating finding an article on how to have your adhd childs room like :)Do you think that may help me? My son has just finished his first month on adderall xr 10 mg. It has changed his life significantly as well as made our family life much more tolerable. BUT, were as before he was annoying and lacked the ability to concentrate and was great at offending people among all the other ADHD traits -now he is a peach. But, around the evening (like 6-7) he freaks. He cries and tenses every muscle in his little body (he's 8) and glares like no one I know. I guess I'm glad he's not hurting anybody but he looks like he's going to have a heart attack.Silv,
Not sure if you need mood stabilizer considering he just started the meds...These meds do have come down effects...some feel them while others don't. Maybe you should try Concerta....it is way more smoother for the way it releases...only release 20% and then the rest over 8 to 12 hours......come down would be a little easier....My son on Adderall turned into a monster from hell, screaming and crying, and going to throw objects, to say the least a coffee table.....Talk to your doctor .....etc...
