Introducing myself | ADHD Information

Thamk you Bridget and Barb for welcoming me and replying,  yes since I have had the heart failure I now suffer panic/anxiety attacks which feels like having the heart failure all over again,  now looking back I think I suffered panic attacks before but never really knew what it was.

I know my heart has gone back to normal because I have had the echo done, I haven't taken the meds for nearly 2 years now because I stopped when I got pregnant then the bloody heart failure happened,  I am just keeping my fingers crossed that he will at least say I can go back on them as long as I am monitered to see if they are affecting my heart.   If there was some other way like natural I would try it but when you are feeling like I am at the moment it is so hard to even make the smallest changes.

Hi everyone, I finally found somewhere to talk to others about add.

I am 43 and was diagnosed at 35 and was on dex for 8 years and it opened up a whole new world for me, I could think, and actually get chores done and pay bills on time, and was so much more calmer and relaxed.

This year I gave birth and had heart failure, so the doctor wont give me my meds back, he said when my heart healed I could go back on them, which It has healed but he is still reluctant to give them back.

I am going crazy not being on my tablets and hate how I have gone back to what I was like years ago.   Does anyone have any information on taking the tablets with heart problems, or of any other meds that are supposedly safer.  I see my heart doctor on Monday and am hoping fingers crossed he says it is ok to take again, but if I can find some info out to take with me he may listen heres hoping.

I do know the meds carry warnings about possible heart problems.

first of all welcome to te board you will ge lots of info here...i would simly state that withot them you cant deal and afraid of a heart attack...which is what i interpreted from yor post..if i misinterpreted, then dnt go that way...

if he says no get a 2nd opinion girl.....you need your life back...

if you need to vent here is the place....we all have done it at one time or another and everyone here is so supportive....if having a bad day...we will chear you up.

good luck wit yor appt. and you are in my prayers i hope things go better for you...

hi angel,

be real careful about taking stimulants with a bad heart. Its better to be spaced out and alive than wired up and dead!

quit smoking if you smoke. start walking and working out as excercise will help your symptoms too. cut down on meat, chips and fries and other junk food. get your heart healthy and strong before you go back on stimulants. I am no doctor but I have seen friends die from heart attacks in their 30s.

I have heard some wonderful things about Omega 3 fatty acids. I have a friend whose son is taking them... she swears they make a world of difference  with his symptoms.. Maybe in the meantime, you could give that a try?? Also I know there is a natural alternative board on here that you might want to check out if you havent already...

Personally, I know I would be scared to death of taking the stims if I have had previous heart problems --- I know your ADD may be severe, and it is probably so frustrating knowing how it was... but you have to take care of yourself whole body, not just the mental part.  Good luck and I hope you find the best treatment for you --- Heart and mind.

Sherry

read the alternative posts board...

i teach a boy who has severe adhd and has a heart problem..  non-stims made him feel suicidal, so now he has cognivite behavioural therapy and takes supplements..

i agree with needabreater, better to look after the heart and be spaced out.. the adhd isn't going to kill you but you only have one heart...

having said that, i'm sure that there a ways to help you through this..

Hey CC,

Don't make her laugh too hard, she may set back her recovery...

dex is pretty much the most active ADHD stim out there. There are milder ones, such as Ritalin.

There's non-stim ADHD meds, too, such as Strattera. It's got other complications, however.

Some anti-D's have some mitigative effect on ADHD, such as Wellbutryn and Prozac. Be cautious with Effexor, as it can raise bp.

Good wishes.

D

Welcome!!!!  This is the best place ever...it can make you laugh too....lots of fun and stimulating thought ...not that we need that ...but it is....Thank you everyone for giving me your opinions I really appreciate it, and it gives me somewhere to start looking at probably alternative ways and some ideas to ask the heart doctor on Monday,  I hope to be able to help others by being around here for a while, dont worry I wont have a setback  lol  laughter is the best medicine I believe.   angel hugs  Christine

There are meds which are not stimulants which you may be able to take in time.

Hang in there and remember, your baby needs you to help him or her to grow up. He doesn't care whether or not you are totally focused. He cares about you as Mommy. He needs you.

Don't risk your life when someone so precious needs you. Being needed and loved by your child is the best med in the world. It may not increase your focus or organizational skills, but it gives you a reason to persevere when things get tough.

I was a bit scared of taking the dex having this problem, but the heart doctor said this is the only form of heart problem where you can make a full recovery, because the heart failure was due to excess fluid from the pregnancy, once that is resolved nearly all people that have had this condition do make a full recovery, the doctors also did heaps of tests while I was in hospital to make sure there was no other reason for the heart failure, like blocked arteries etc,   so thats why I was hoping that there was some slim chance that someone on the boards may have had heart problems and still take the tablets for ADD,  it doesn't hurt to ask.  I just cant live the rest of my life having my ADD out of control and feeling so sh*tty and unhappy like I do now, especially when I know how I was on medication, If I had never known what it was like before I dont think I would be struggling so much now.   Thanks for listening.  angel hugs Christine
