i don't even have one anymore...
one less stress
I am notadhd/add ,but I still can't balance my checkbook! I use the checkbooks with a carbon copy to record all my mistakes
.I thought the bank balances your check book? My teachers would figure out my grades.I can imagine nothing more challenging than actually doing this every month.
what excactly does "balance a checkbook" mean? I bounce mine.Oh, you mean the book with the magic paper in it. You scribble numbers on it and it shuts Mr. Bill Collector up for a few weeks... that?
Yeah... Umm, ever since I bounced 5 worth of FEES in one month, I was banned from ever touching a bill or a check, or anything that looks like a bill or a check

Got a neat trick that's worked for me with my ADHD...
I always forget that there is still a check not cashed, and because I don't balance, I go to the atm , get the amount available and think im good, then bamo a few days latter bounce city. Its because I can't keep track of checks that haven't come in yet, its too much.
So, I got some advice from a bank attendant...
I opened a second checking account in the same bank. Then when I wrote the check I moved that money from the primary to the secondary new account, which I named Sent and the only account now I have checks for. Once I move the money I know I can't touch it, I don't have a debit card for that second account, only checks. This works really well because its a write it and forget it method.
So I know the balance in my first checking is actually real, and any money in my second account is already spent. its simple in a way, but you don't have to keep track or remember crap, other than to move the money as you write the check. I do online banking so its easy to move money about.
As confusing as it sounds, it works realy well, and I have yet to bounce another check.
Dave2u4now38631.751087963there should be a "sometimes" as an answer choice.
I never balanced my check book and would overdraw at least 2 times a year. I also would always enter in any direct atm withdrawals from the store as rounded to the nearest dollar if I remembered to even enter it in. I have years of unopened bank statements filed away.
About a year or so ago, I finally went online with my checkbook. I found that it was much easier to understand HOW to balance it. Since then, I am much more regular about doing it.
I also got a new wallet that includes the checkbook holder. What a godsend! I now have my checkbook handy at all times. I've only lost it twice in the past 3 months since I went to this new organized wallet. this is a first for me!
