What would be the best adhd NON stimulant medication? This being said. What would be the best NON stimulant Med but closest to Adderall.
THE ONLY NON STIMULANT MED I KNOW ABOUT IS STRATTERA....I WAS ON IT, ONLY REASON I SWITCHED IS CUZ STRATTERA CONTAINS A LOW DOSE OF ANTI DEPRESSION MED IN IT AND IT WASNT ENUF FOR ME SO I HAD NO CHOICE TO SWITCH.
EVEN WITH ALL THE WARNINGS, THAT ARE MOSTLY FOR KIDS I HAD NO SIDE EFFECTS AND IT WORKED GREAT FOR MY ADHD....JUST NOT ENUF FOR MY SEVERE ANXIETY DEPRESSION....
DONT NO IF THIS HELPS, BUT GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SEARCH

I agree that Wellbutrin and Strattera are the 2 best choices. Wellbutrin is probably closer to Adderall because it has some effect on dopamine and is mildly stimulating, whereas Strattera is kind of a coin toss... sometimes it's stimulating and sometimes it's sedating. Why not a stimulant, if I may ask? They are still far and away the best studied drugs with the best efficacy.I generally try not to "put down" any medication. When someone says negative things about a med that I take that works well for me, I tend to get defensive (probably ridiculous, I know, but it is what it is). That being said, I know Strattera has worked wonders for some, but Wellbutrin is probably a better option to try first. Mounting evidence suggests that the risk of liver toxicity with Strattera, though small, is not so insignificant as we previously thought. An occasional blood test to screen for liver enzymes is not a bad idea for patients on that drug.Wellbutrin seems also to carry risks for liver damage:

The Strattera made him very anxious. His doc kept telling us to give it time because it wasn't a stimulant and wouldn't be making him anxious. After weeks of intense anxiety, we finally took the child off the Strattera and he became calm and happy again after just 2 days. Be careful and listen to your own body, not your doctor's assurances.Wellbutrin is the next drug after Strattera if you are looking for a non-stimulant. It is a antidepressant that has stimulating effects and helps with depression/anxiety/ remember the quit smoking classes use Zyban, which is the same as Wellbutrin just renamed, for money reasons I am sure.
Tell you what I went to a stop smoking class, and there were about 10 people, when all the people stopped smoking and Zyban took over. That room was very calm, I remember looking around thinking to myself, Wow, this stuff works....But when you stop using it, that is when people tend to light up again.
Look up Wellbutrin, It is similar to Strattera, very similar. I am not sure which is stronger though, hope this helps.
