Ritalin and Talking Alot!! | ADHD Information

I can't speak for a child, but for myself, the excessive talking was a side effect when I started taking the medication.  That went away after about a week or so.  I did notice; however, that when my doctor increased the dosage, I initially had trouble speaking or finishing thoughts.  To me, it felt like a side effect of taking too much of the medication.  When I decreased the dose, the side effect went away and I felt better.  I'm an adult, who currently takes about 36mg of concerta (time released ritilan, similar to a 30 mg dose).  How was your son doing when he was taking the 5mg doses twice a day?The first 2 days he took 5mg he talked alot also and then it seemed to stop.  When we jumped to 7.5mg twice a day I didn't notice the talking but it came back when we went to 10mg am and 7.5mg pm.  I was thinking maybe he can just get his thoughts together now where as before he couldn't with all the interference going on in his head.  I'm going to give it some more time and if it doesn't ease up I'll call the doctor.  Thanks for the input. My DS ,4 1/2, started ritalin almost 2 weeks ago.  He takes 10mg in the AM and 7.5mg in the afternoon.  We began at 5mg both times and have worked up to this dose.  My question is ... has anyone ever noticed that their child becomes very chatty about 1 hour after taking the meds?  I can't get him to stop talking...this goes on for about 1/2 hr or until I can change the setting.  He talks about imaginary things and real things.  I can't tell if it's a side effect of the meds or if he can just get all his thoughts together now and express himself.  One of his problems is an expressive language delay.  Has anyone else experienced this?
