I'd say no to me being stunted, as a matter of fact, I've gained about 30 pounds on Ritalin in the last 8 years.
My first born son was not stunted, at least horizontally. He's tippin' at 200 lbs. He played offensive line in highschool. Now he's just offensive.
My second born son is tall, about 6 feet. He is skinny. But, he's a hyper athlete. He's moving to Tahoe in an attempt to go pro as a snwoboarder this fall. He's been on stims for 10 years, since the 3rd (?) grade.
exactly, its the lack of food that contributes to the stunting of growth...
I was wondering if any of the adults say that being medicated stunted their growth. My 8-yr old son's pretty skinny right now, and I'm wondering about the long-term effects of his medication.
No personal experience on it - but when I got an Rx for strattera there was a pamphlet with it. They mentioned the warning that it's well known that some children become stunted in growth when taking it. It says that the child must go in often to be weighed and measured to make sure - and taken off it if there's reason to think it's having that effect.
Amphetamines like Ritalin and Adderal don't stunt growth. They do suppress appetite for some though - which could lead to malnutrition which in turn would stunt growth in children. As always - make sure to see the doctor weekly with a child on this so you can monitor this - as well as heart and blood pressure as there's always that risk of heart troubles if you don't.
