Guanfacine (tenex) is an alpha-2 noradrenergic agonist. It is a blood pressure med, but is in phase 3 clinical trials for treatment of ADHD. Where a drug like Strattera causes increased norepinephrine in the synapse, guanfacine mimics the action of norepinephrine at certain receptors in the brain. It seems to have some benefit in enhancing cognitive function. It is sometimes used when stimulants are ineffective or cause intolerable side effects. The mildly sedating properties of the drug help with sleep patterns and anxiety. Guanfacine is a coin toss... for some it works wonders, for others it may as well be a placebo. It's hard to know until you try it.

Here is a link to a meds chart I found....I would probably use this chart as a starting point and continue to  research because I still am not sure what type of drug tenex is and what are the other uses
