Ritalin for son | ADHD Information
My son is 17 and went through a very bad time last spring. We got
him into therapy and he seems much more his old self, to the point that
we were wondering why he was still going. Yesterday, he came home
with a prescription for Ritalin - 10 mg 1x per day, to give it a try,
because he told the doc that he had difficulty focusing on his
schoolwork. There was more to the conversation than that, but
that was the gist of it. The doc told me that my son is not ADD,
but has 2 characteristics that ADD patients have - procrastination and
difficulty focusing. We are concerned that taking a drug sends
the wrong message - that he's not dealing with whatever is causing his
distraction, and just doing what he needs to. The doc is selling
us on it's a package deal - give it a try, see if it helps, and it will
help him to work through things. I'm very confused about
this. Any advice? We don't want this to be a lifestyle for
him......
try cognitive behavioural therapy..
there are means and ways to help your son.. he must want to help himself though..
he may also be going through a hard patch in his life.. if so, then those issues must be addressed..
good luck!!
