Have any of you checked out this website? And if so have you ordered from it? I've looked and I'm very close to ordering this but thought if anyone else had if they saw results.
To be honest with you, being a good teacher of ADHD kids has to come from within...not read from a book. If the teacher doesn't have the right personality for ADHDers it doesn't work.
I do think these are absolutely true and why I have such a great relationship with my ADHDers....I think I'll print this out and hang it where other teachers can see it!
1. Find Out What Your ADHD Student Loves And Figure Out A Way To Involve That In His School Day. (In Chapter 8, I give you an absurdly easy way to do this on the first day of school.)
2. "Listen" To Your Students’ Misbehavior. Student misbehavior isn't just an annoying disruption --- it's a secret message the student is (unwittingly) trying to convey to you. And usually that message can be boiled down to two words: "Reach me." On page 45, I give you a way to do exactly that --- a method that is so effortless, effective and simple, you’re going to slap your forehead and wonder why you didn’t think of it first!
3. Get Your ADHD Students To Like You. I’m not talking about a loosey-goosey approach in which you undercut your authority by becoming their "friend." I’m talking about winning the respect from your student in such a likeable way that he then becomes comfortable letting his guard down and now is on "your side." You’ll be astonished what this technique alone will do, and you might even become a hero to him in the process. My book gives you the exact approach for doing this.
4. Stop Controlling And Start Coaching. Change your style of thinking from a controlling, adversarial mode to something more like coaching. You almost want to think of yourself as a personal trainer for these kids. The typical teacher is thinking, "I need to establish control, and the student needs to follow me and do what they’re told." And that works just fine for regular students. But it’s a whole different ball game with ADHD kids.
I agree...(surprised)
that it does come from within. I found this website to be 'very' informative. I've never seen it before and I thought it was great. I realize that it must be difficult to teach children much less one's that have adhd. Are you a teacher that teaches children with adhd'ers in your class?
Are you a teacher that teaches children with adhd'ers in your class?
You bet I am...not only do I have my own personal ADHDer at home, but I have taught NUMEROUS ADHDers (and every other dx) in my 14 years of teaching.
Last year, in one class alone, I had 6 ADHDers at one time. Some were on meds and some were not.
I have a few this year too....along with PDD and NVLD.
I also have academically "adopted" one of the biggest problem children in the entire middle school....I give up my lunch period everyday so that he can come to my class and we work one on one on his academics. While everyone else would like to see him fall off the face of the earth, I would like to take him home.
This is what I mean when I say that the love for ADHDers/ every other dx has to come from within.
I bookmarked it so I can check it out more thoroughly later. It sounds like what I've always believed.
Tater, I have known for a long time that you are special! All those ADHDers and then to tutor one on your own time besides!
Come teach in my school! Please, please, please, pretty please with brown sugar and a cherry on top!!!!

BumpTater, You are the best, I wish we had you at our school
I am a teacher and I ordered this book online. I have read about a third of it so far.
I love the idea of this program. I believe it has some very valid and wonderful answers to the problems teachers face when working with ADD and ADHD students.
I hope that these types of books do not overshadow the one that has helped me so much. Stopping ADHD.
I know that the book sounds wrong. It sounds like they have a cure. Well, I think they do have the cure, for most of the ADHD and ADD cases. I have tried these exercises and it has been amazing to me how much they have helped me.
I believe it takes a Special person willing to learn with all Special needs kids and adults what there needs are. Tater send President Bush the best ways to teach disability people. This is the whole problem we need the Washington people to under stand the whole thing. The only way change will happen is when these people get you can't have a set format for all people. We all need are ways met that best fit us to learn.
Tater send President Bush the best ways to teach disability people.
If it were only that easy, Brent. We, as a profession, are screaming but it is falling on deaf ears.
Parents/school staff: We need a petition to go to Washington for them to get the one size kits all attitude is Bogus. If we do nothing education will not change ever. Let's all just quit doing nothing and send one I am not kidding. pastmember: I don't think that teachers...especially teachers would agree that 'all' children learn the same way. I honestly feel it takes a VERY 'special' person to teach. I don't think that have 'any' teacher has a 'kit' towards attitude. I do realize that there are rules/regulations that the schools/teachers/students must go by. Is this what you are referring to?
