OKAY..... then please explain....
When the drug companies first started pushing the deadly SSRI antidepressants, the normal rate of suicide was 11 per 100,000. All of the advertising focussed on 10% of the population as having "untreated" depression.
15 years later, the percentage of the population with "untreated" depression was 30%.
The suicide rate of people on these drugs was 768 per 100,000..... that's 68 times the normal rate. Utah leads the world in per capita use of SSRIs. It also has one of the highest suicide rates.
Around 1997, the drug companies started pushing the doctors to prescribe SSRIs for children. By 2003, the pile of dead children was too big to ignore.
SSRI sales have dropped by $ 750,000,000 PER MONTH.
The sales of ADHD drugs are climbing as fast as the SSRI sales used to climb. These drugs are known to be ADDICTIVE and have side effects such as DEATH on their warning lists.
WHY ARE YOU SO EAGER TO GIVE HARMFUL DRUGS TO YOUR CHILDREN !!!!!
Every 5 minutes an American dies from an adverse reaction to an FDA approved prescription drug. SOME OF THEM ARE CHILDREN !!!
Balanced, your comments are not well informed or helpful. Harmful is more accurate. Ones personal agenda need not be pushed on others. Please put your insecurity issues in another forum.
BTW, what kind of professional education do you have on the topic except reading stories on the internet?
Do we have the option to put people in a forum on "ignore"? I find that people who post on forums merely to excite are just to distracting. Like mosquites. Anyone have any OFF?In 2002 the overall suicide figure rose
from 30,622 (2001)
up to 31,655.

You are a funny bird. Do you know anything about statistics?? I would think not - I took statistical analysis in university so let me explain:
First - your info is flawed. I think you got it from one of the kills' sites - they are bogus and built by them or by special interest groups. Check out the governments' sites for proper stats. Oh, that's right - you don't trust the government as they are cronies to big business! - not like DEA - who is totally on the level and always vigilant!
Of course suicides are higher in Utah! There's a prevalence of both handguns and religious extemism. Both together with a confused teen or preteen and there's an opening for disaster.
Also - these statsitics are always from a small sample of the population. Then - the extrapolate that to give a generalized view of the population in whole. The smaller the sample - the less accurate. How big was the sample? Very small if they are like most of the ones I've seen.
As always - the times that the SSRIs will increase suicidal thoughts in a child already full of angst and fear and generally feeling rejected - is when the parents decide that instead of using meds as the LAST resort the use if FIRST. That's not the fault of the manufacturers - the parents are not mindless autonomons!
Talk to your kid - find out about their problems and let them know you are there always. If you let them be alone with this (most north american parents don't seem to think it's important) they will inevitably try other more drastic means to get relief.
Meds are not the end all and be all - I am not suggesting they are. But - they are a part of a complete mental health plan for people who truly need them.
If you want to know more about how statistics work - let me know and I'll refer you to a large pile of very dry boring reading that will help you (maybe) make sense of the numbers that you see.
Life is not black and white, good and evil - it's gray and human and fallable and wonderful!!!!
Auntie - I am SO impressed with you! You came up with numbers AND quoted their sources!! That's the way it's supposed to be done! I am a bad one sometimes for that. But - to make sense of any numbers the whole info needs to be there - good and bad.
Wonderful to see you come to class totally prepared!! some of us (ahem) tend to have our dogs eat our homework.
If you are truly interested in advocacy get your ass from behind a keyboard and in to the community. Also, the nature of the world has changed drastically in the past 15 years. I know there are many anthropological reasons as to the change in modern culture that are not contributed to drug companies. Again, a forum that is designed for like minded individuals attempting to share experiences is not the place for advocacy. It is apparent you have a personal problem with the topic of ADHD/depression that is far more complex than reading stories of child suicide online. Did a drug company fire you as a sales rep or something???
I don't know where you dig up your information but note that suicides have declined in children. If we are giving our children more drugs and they are causing suicides then why is the rate of suicides declining amoung children? I'd say it very well might be the opposite - that the drugs are helping prevent some suicides.
