personally i appreciate picasso's blue period however i find most of the rest of his work less than genius (and don't get me started on his ridiculous ceramics - ought to be smashed for posterity. huh!)
velasquez is wonderful and the few works that giorgione put out before his premature death showed wonderful promise. i am rather sick to death of the impressionists at the moment although they were favourites in my late teens. then i moved on to COBRA and then the Russians like Kandinsky. fell out with them and went retro --- back to basics with Ingres although no fan of Neo-Classicism he rather took my fancy.
I have always loathed David. (not you Davido!)
what else is good.
Gauguin never did it for me --- too flat and Tahitian. boooring.
hmm -- da vinci, yup like the madonna of the rocks rather than stupid mona lisa.
really i think my fave our those old sienese flat paintings (just before giotto - i love giotto too though). not a big fan of masaccio - too derivative.
nothing good to say about raphael particularly. but DO like boticelli.
michaelangelo's paintings too muscly but think sculptures fffantastic.
and what next. yes titian - love him.
caravaggio --- up there in my top ten all faves i should think.
oh and what else --- can't think.
rothko (modern) probably rates as my all time number one (possibly).

no estoy ahihey i was going to write a long post and then thought well i'll just check back in before i send it. and decided against it cos it was boring and all about art (yawn) but now think i will send it cos i wrote it so why not...
yeah i like monet --- it just got a little over-exposed in London i think. i got sick of it - exhibition after exhibition in every single posh London gallery.
but really he's great.
yeah and i love the darkness of some of the late renaissance early baroque. that whole chiaroscuro thing really does it for me. as i said i think caravaggio is def up there in my top ten and late, late titian too. rembrandt (yeah some of his portraits) not sure but yeah.
i'm trying to think renaissance - who was there again???? oh boy, my brain is really falling here er, lets see Raphael (no) Da Vinci (yes) Boticelli (yes)
oh but what about those lovely early ones like Pietro della Francesca (whatever) oh boy i forget everything.
but i like modern best --- rothko is my fave.
and man i don't know. i love modern. i love art galleries. i like the MOCA here in downtown LA. it's good.
