   A poster was commenting on her 2 yr old child only knowing 4 words and thinking that this might be a sign of ADHD.

   Although I have been a very serious skeptic, there is just too much info to ignore about vaccines and autism... and "speech delay" is part of the autism spectrum.

   Our little children are given dozens of vaccines. Although they seem to tolerate them fairly well, the problem may be the stabilizing agent in the vaccine. In some, not all, vaccines , the stabilizing agent is Thimerosal... aka... Mercury.

   Some vaccine injections contain 87 times the FDA's maximum dose of Mercury allowed in fish sold for human consumption.

   Although there is no absolute proof that Thimerosal could lead to Autism, the available info was a big enough concern for ELI LILLY to have the Bush administration add a line into the Homeland Security Bill ensuring that people could not sue drug companies for any "problems" relating to vaccines... in the name of National Security of course.

   Fortunately, the special interest groups for Autistic children were able to have that line removed before the bill passed.

   Autism and related "disorders" like speech delay, are on the rise at the same rate as the vaccinations given to very young children.

When you compare a 15cc shot to a 5lb fish, you would still be getting a much lower dose of mercury from the shot. What do you have to compare your numbers with? Yes , mercury is dangerous, but we really don't use meds processed with mercury. If you're commenting on removing vaccines from the market, just don't give your kids the vaccines and we can award you the DARWIN awards with the next pandemic.

Industry doing anything to make money I can understand.  And politicians.

But what gets me is how the doctors involved (in the case of vaccines) and psychiatrists (in the case of this kind of drug) can back the drug companies up, ghostwrite  study 'results' for the industry, insist for year after year that the drugs are safe - at the risk of lives, often those of children.  Why they do it is obvious, but how can they start their career choosing to help save life and then lose their ethics so easily.

Approximately 12 out of the 18 vaccine doses the average American child receives before the age of two contain Thimerosal. Cumulatively, that's more than 200 micrograms of mercury, which would fit on the head of a pin.

Thimerosal "is one of the most toxic compounds I know of," Haley said. "I can't think of anything that I know of is more lethal."

Dr. Jane Siegel is a professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern in Dallas. For the past five years, Siegel has sat on the government vaccine committee that decides which vaccines are mandatory for children.

"I believe there is no data thus far that's been looked at to prove that there's a connection - that there's a causitive relationship," Siegel said.

But just two years ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did conduct a study, which showed that three-month-old babies exposed to just 63 micrograms of mercury - less than half of the aforementioned pin top - were two-and-a-half times more likely to develop autism.

The study is stamped "Confidential" and "Do Not Copy or Release." Siegel says it was never made public because it was just a draft.

"Until they're final, and are ready for publication, they're always considered a draft, not to be widely distributed," Siegel said. "This preliminary information could be distributed, and that could do harm." So why was it marked 'Confidential, Do Not Release', rather than a simple 'Draft'?

"I think we're mincing words," Siegel said.

Subsequently, the CDC did release a report to the public, but the findings were much different. The new study was amended with different data which lowered the autism rate.

Dr. Sidney Baker has reviewed both reports. Baker has authored six medical books, and written scores of articles on childhood behavior and autism.

Baker is critical of the CDC study.

"I can't imagine that smart people could possibly have re-arranged the data the way they were done, and represented the data the way they were done, without doing it on purpose and with the express purpose, as you say, of a coverup," Baker said.

Baker treats hundreds of autistic patients each year from around the country. He suspects that about half of the children he sees have been affected by Thimerosal from their vaccines.

Baker said the CDC's refusal to release raw data from the study for outside experts to evaluate - a standard protocol in medical research - is helping to fuel the controversy.

To parents like the Counters, that is unforgiveable.

"It doesn't matter that 95% or 98%, or whatever the percentage of the kids - somehow their system is able to take in a particular metal - in this case, mercury - and flush it out," Counter said. "My kid couldn't, and it wreaked havoc on his system.

"It fried his wires."

Under pressure from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC, pharmaceutical companies agreed to stop manufacturing vaccines containing Thimerosal in March 2001. But while production may have ceased, vaccine vials already containing Thimerosal were not recalled.

A very simple solution for parents worried about upcoming shots for children is to ask your doctor ahead of time for Thimerosal-free vaccines..."

It looks as if it IS available, and has been since 2001, but from some articles it seems that your doctor for some reason is likely to tell you otherwise and that you have to ask for it (and if we don't know its available we're not likely to ask).  Apparently some of them have a TRACE of mercury, but still a reduction of 95% which has got to be better than before.

Today, the FDA approved a newly formulated version of Tripedia, a diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccine without preservatives and with only a trace amount of thimerosal.

"This approval is significant because now all routinely recommended pediatric vaccines will be available as either completely thimerosal free or without any significant amounts of thimerosal, a preservative that contains mercury," said Dr. Bernard Schwetz, Acting Principal Deputy Commissioner. "Although thimerosal is a very effective preservative, the Public Health Service recommended that thimerosal should be reduced or eliminated from vaccines as soon as possible to minimize the exposure of infants and young children to mercury."

Tripedia now contains less than 0.5 micrograms of mercury per dose, a greater than 95% reduction in the amount of thimerosal per dose compared to the original version of Tripedia.

The pediatric vaccines that are recommended for routine use are: DTaP, hepatitis B, Haemophilus conjugate (Hib), pneumococcal conjugate, inactivated poliovirus, varicella, measles, mumps and rubella. Since 1999, pediatric formulations of hepatitis B vaccines that either contain no thimerosal (Recombivax HB) or trace amounts (EngerixB) have been approved.

In recent years, various federal agencies have been addressing the health risks of mercury, which is found in the environment, in food and in household products. Although no harmful effects have been reported from thimerosal at doses that were used in vaccines, the PHS agencies, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and vaccine manufacturers agreed that thimerosal should be reduced or eliminated in vaccines to make already safe vaccines even safer.

Many Vaccines Are Still Made With Mercury

Over three years ago, health-related organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended that thimerosal be removed from vaccines as soon as possible. Despite this recommendation, thimerosal is still present in many vaccinations today.

Thimerosal, an additive that has been used as a vaccine preservative since the 1930s, contains 49.6 percent mercury by weight. Mercury is a toxic element that, if taken in high enough doses, can result in long-term immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral dysfunctions. Mercury is especially dangerous to fetuses and small children because their brains are still developing and are therefore more susceptible to the damaging effects. Disorders associated with mercury poisoning include autism, attention deficit disorder, and speech and language deficiencies.

Many of the thimerosal-containing vaccines, which include Hepatitis B, diphtheria, pertussis, acellular pertussis, tetanus and Hib, are recommended specifically for children. In fact, many infants receive up to 15 vaccines that contain mercury by the time they are six months old. Recently, vaccine manufacturers have begun to reduce the number of vaccines containing thimerosal, but children are still being exposed to potentially harmful levels of mercury in the vaccinations. CDC still recommends that parents vaccinate their children, however.

 

Several Congressional hearings have debated this issue, partly because of health reasons and partly because the approval process for these vaccines is heavily influenced by the pharmaceutical industry. Numerous congressmen have called for the removal of all vaccines containing thimerosal, though this has not yet occurred."

curus38638.2947106482I have to say that I agree with BALANCED on this one.  If I knew then what I know now about Immunizations, I have to say that I probably wouldn't have had them administered to my kids.  What is particularly frightening is the DTP shot which has had grave consequences for many children.  Many parents blame that Vaccine for SIDS suffered by their babies, but of course the Doctors dismiss it as a coincidence.   Read Vaccinations:  A Thoughtful Parent's Guide,  by Aviva Jill Romm.  Or read Deadly Immunity, published on Salon.Com.  What interest me is that studies have shown that many diseases that we are vaccinating against have been on a natural decline for decades in other countries that did not use the vaccines.   I just have to wonder whether my kids would have been better off without the vaccine.  unconditionaluv38638.3353703704

Meanwhile, measures were taken to remove the compound from pet innoculations. More internal company documents and memos show that Eli Lilly began revising its claims about Thimerosal starting in the 1960s, changing package inserts from stating "non-toxic" to "non-irritating to body to issue". Then, in November 1973, the company's legal division suggested adding the statement: "Do not use when aluminum may come in contact with treated skin". Aluminum is a compound added to many vaccines as a catalyst. But even with this warning, the government committees did nothing.

Haley said any good biochemist knows that Thimerosal and aluminum react dangerously when combined together.

He showed News 8 the results of his experiments on human brain neurons.

"If we add this level of aluminum that we see very little toxicity with to this level of Thimerosal, we get this bottom line ... indicating that we have dramatically enhanced the toxicity, where within 24 hours essentially all of the neurons are dead," Haley said.

Officials at Eli Lilly declined to interview with News 8. However, they did send an e-mail, which said in part that the company's "primary concern is for patient safety". The e-mail also stated that "Lilly discontinued its sale or use of (Thimerosal) about ten years ago".

However, that did not stop other pharmaceutical companies from taking over the production of the vaccine preservative.

In December 1999, shortly before Eli Lilly quit producing thimerosal, the company changed its packaging insert again. This time, Lilly warned that Thimerosal was "toxic". Additionally, it stated that effects of exposure may include "fetal changes, decreased offspring survival, and lung tissue changes".

However, the government's vaccine committee continues to insist that Thimerosal has never been dangerous to American children..."

Until scientist can develop a way to preserve these vaccines, what choice do we have in vaccinations? They aren't made with mercury in them, It's just the only preservative we have to be able to create enough vaccine for the population.

The vaccines can stay....  just phase them over a longer period of time.

But, get rid of the Mercury in them.

I'm not arguing this Balanced because I too have my questions about vaccines but what special interest groups?  I can't imagine any group for Autistic children would try to hide a fact like that.  Where did you get this info from?

But the Autistic Groups managed to get that 'can't-sue-for-vaccine-damage line' ousted before the Bill went through.

IF thats the right interpretation (near enough) of what Balance was saying, then the Autistic Groups weren't hiding any facts at all - they were just putting a stop to Eli Lilly's self protection plan?

   Sorry for the misunderstanding. Curus"s explanation is fairly correct.

   Eli Lilly is the most corrupt corporation in the world and is seriously tied in wth the WHOLE Bush family. (George sr. was a director of Eli Lilly a few years ago and some of the ex Lilly directors have cushy White House jobs).

   Lilly tried to use the Homeland Security bill to shield itself and the other drug companies from being sued for any problems with any vaccines. My friends were able to get that "protection" removed.

   Remember about 2 years ago, 4 soldiers from Fort Bragg murdered their wives , family members and killed themselves shortly after returning from duty in the Middle east?

   THE SOLDIERS DID NOT EVEN KNOW EACH OTHER ! THE ONLY COMMON THING WAS THAT THEY HAD ALL BEEN VACCINATED WITH AN UNTRIED VACCINE FOR SOME DISEASE THAT'S PREVALENT OVER THERE.

   Although the movie "The Constant Gardener" is fictional... it really isn't that far a stretch from the truth.
