Hyperactivity without ADD? | ADHD Information

oh yeah, running and hyperfocusing.  I can relate.  I still run on the job.  Run to the printer. Run outside. run with the kids.  Running is a great release and I'm 49. I love running around at my job.   Don't think you have to have trouble concentrating to be Adhd, but "i'll let someone else answer that one.   Should you worry?  No.  Enjoy the rush.

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and have been wondering for a while whether I might have ADHD.  (People have asked me if I do).  The problem is that some of the symptoms seem to fit me a lot and others don't at all.  For example, I am pretty hyperactive.  I am constantly fidgeting, moving, etc.  I will start running for no reason, sometimes inappropriately.  For example, at a job a few years ago (in my early 20s) I would run to the printer to pick up something I'd printed, then run back.  At least three times a week doing this I'd run into a file cabinet, prompting the friendly mocking of my co-workers and a lot of bruises.  I feel like I'm in a rush most of the time.  If someone gives me a task, I feel like I have to finish it as soon as possible and I sometimes feel anxious just sitting still.  I've pretty much always been this way - I remember feeling restless and trapped even as a very young kid.

However, I don't have any serious problems concentrating - I almost concentrate too well - when I'm working on something I can shut out the entire world.  On the other hand, if I'm not in deep concentration mode, I'm usually doing at least two things at once.  As a kid, I read novels during class (my teachers let me as long as I could answer questions).  Now in law school, I play video games - I find that I can focus on lectures better if I'm also doing something else!  But I've never had any of the problems in school or work that are commonly associated with ADHD.

Does this make any sense?  I've never heard of hyperactivity coming separately from ADHD.  Should I worry about it if it doesn't keep me from functioning?  It's pretty frustrating sometimes feeling like I need to speed through everything (although my employers generally love it).  Thoughts?  Thanks,

Jessica
